i have a flat top Pete with a C-15. I can get 7mpg pulling a reefer trailer. High 5’s with a dry van.

i would think a nose cone on the trailer is a good idea. If i owned my own dry van, i would absolutely invest in a nose cone

I guess I do have some advantages that some wouldn’t have. My insurance hardly changed at all with my newer truck, but I have a totally clean record and have been with them a good while.

The biggest thing that helped me was selling my old truck and trailer for a total of around $30,000. I put that money down on a brand new trailer and the 3 year old truck. My total payment for the old truck and trailer was $1,250 a month. With the setup I have now it is $1,580 a month. The $330 more is easily made up in fuel savings alone. Plus it is a much longer service interval and hasn’t had a breakdown yet in 6 months that caused me more than a few hours delay at most.

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend going new or fairly new to a guy buying his first truck, but I would think by the second or for sure third you should easily be able to go that route.

Anyway sorry about the thread derailment.

New equipment is definitely right for your situation that was a no brainier. When I was looking to finance they wanted 20k down and about 2.5k a month. That was for a used truck.
If I can find a deal like yours in a couple years it will be tempting.
