Not just the new people, though.
It also happens with drivers at about 5 years experience.
They get confident, which makes them complacent, which leads to more accidents at around that time.
And that can happen at any time in a career in driving.
I have honed my sense of fear out here.
I try to never lose that feeling of un-confidence.
Being afraid to move quickly or take chances is important when driving these big rigs.
