I am getting really tipped off!CondoCruiser, KE5WDP and Rerun8963 Thank this. -
So- would you tip a hooker?
-
After you already "tipped" her?

Most showers have slime and scum build up. TA's never change the mop water and clean the bathrooms too. Most smell like urine. Cleaning consist of flushing the toilet and dragging a towel around. Pilot's, sometimes you have to wait an hour to get a shower. Then it takes less than one minute to have it ready. Alot of cleaning going on there. It's hard to find a good cleaning person with military standards. The few times I've said, "wow, this is clean" got a tip. That might be 4 times a year. Yep, I'm a stiff, but I prefer tight wad!Thank you!

This is really an entertaining thread!
I've never seen so many people who are passionate about NOT tipping.
I consider myself a pretty generous guy, however, in my year and a half of OTR driving, I only saw one shower that I thought deserved a tip. It was at a Bosselmans on I70 in Kansas (I think). It was spotless, and the towels were great. There was even a little candy jar. Other than that, I didn't feel compelled to tip. -
But you're right, you have players that don't tip and players that tip every hand they win. That's one time I don't mind tipping. If a waitress gives me exceptional service, I'll give her 20%. Valet yes, bartenders yes, maids occasionally. All others -
ive always wondered why it is legal for restaraunts to have a lower minimum wage and put the burden of paying their employees on the customer.......almost no other industry is like that

Actually, in "cash" games the dealers draw tips from a pool after a 24 hour period. All 3 shifts split a combined tip box. As the dealers are not allowed to take "cash" (money) off the table....only house chips can be "banked" into a tip box, the players often tip prior to the games beginning. (NV Gaming Statute)
As for tournament....the "main games" are notorious for no tips, or rather pathetic tips....as these are generally occupied by pro players and their livelyhood is the winnings....so the consensus is under $1k top prize, 7%...up to $5k, 12%....above $10k, 8% round to the nearest 500 and the skim to the dealers. Most good dealers don't deal tournament unless they are gaining table time for their day in the tourney as a player.
The strongest tip tables are the 5-10 or 10-20 games....as long as the dealer is savvy enough to quickly make change for the 5$ chips down to dollar chips/slugs and good enough to keep the game moving....Omaha HI/LO is the worst for keeping a game moving.....to many players want to "call the shots" and offer "procedure" rulings and mess with the dealer. The more hands per hour the dealer can keep going, the better his/her tips will be.
When I started dealing....tip night of less than $500 was pathetic....table games and craps....but back then, we "taught" the players how to tip and take care of the dealers. That isn't allowed now days....it is considered hustling unless the player asks to be taught. When I moved out of the pit and into the poker room...it took me a year to get up to a $300 night....there are things in dealing poker that a dealer must do to keep the game under control and moving....now with the auto shufflers, the games move a bit faster with two decks and ready to go right away....no lost time shuffling by a dealer.
Even on the Strip dealers don't make anywhere near what we used to....plus the tip income is taxed now. I was part of the "first hit group" from North Shore Tahoe when the IRS swooped in....after the court battle, I had to pay 18k in back due taxes...luckily, we had a good lawyer team and everyone was banking tips to pay the inevitable bill.CondoCruiser Thanks this. -
I tip $1 for a very clean shower, very good service ("hey, do you need another towel for your hair?"), or just for making me feel like a person, not an inconvenience. I don't leave more than a dollar, but I also leave the shower room as clean as I found it except for those wet towels.
Beyond that, like another poster, I leave it clean. It doesn't hurt me and it might make that cleaning person have a slightly better day. Then again, I've BEEN a janitor-type and I know how rare and far between the appreciation is.
For those who are (sorry) whining about how they don't get thanked, I've found what goes around comes around. I thank those who provide a service to me. I have been thanked by shippers and/or receivers. Not every time. Some of them just dealt with guys like you and are now taking it out on me. But anything I can do to help the trucking industry and our terrible image, not to mention just to be a nice person, is a win-win for me.Raiderfanatic Thanks this.
