That's how we used to ship drums with carbon.

No he doesn't need um, but i'd put a second set anyway. Same with step deck, most drives dont put the second on. I'd also x strap both front and rear, but as far a dot is concerned this is fine secuerment.

Nope they sure aren't. I believe this driver in the picture did a decent job with securement definitely won't take anything away from him. The drybox or reefer comment is something I see a lot though. Closed container haulers always seem to critique flatbed securement yet don't know what they're talking about. :biggrin_25510:

You are correct. I previously ran flat and am going back to it so 2 on the front and 2 on the back was a must. I've never x'd straps although it does sound like a decent idea. You are 100% correct he's DOT legal. This is just one of them threads where somebody was fed the wrong information or didn't look ya know?

Its fine. I may have put more straps, but its good. Besides I have tarped loads before just because they looked scary, even though they were strapped down safely. Just to keep the DOT off my back.

Personally I would have strapped each row of barrels but I have no problem with how that driver did it.

Those might not even be full. That trailer looks pretty high off the ground.
