I do grades alot and I'm usually between 75k and 79k gross. My advice to anyone and everyone concerning grades, SLOW THE F DOWN!! Never take a grade faster than your weight allows. So what if bunches of other trucks zip past you. It isn't your soul in their truck and my guess is they just aren't as heavy as you. My experience is the weight dictates the safe speed moremthan anything else. If you're heavy, creep down that grade at 40mph, 35mph, 30mph whatever fits. The slower you go, the more effective engine brakes will be at keeping you from going too fast and the less heat you'll build up in your brakes slowing down.
On more than one occasion, started at the top holding myself between 50 and 55 mph. Get maybe about halfway down, get concerned I may be relying on regular brakes too much, drop a gear and slow down to 40 to 45 mph for the rest, or maybe even drop 2 gears and go even slower.
IDK, grades aren't a problem if you properly drive them. Slow down. Especially if you are heavy.

Never be too proud or in too much of a hurry to slow down on a grade.

Not quite as ugly as Cumberland, but it's pretty bad and will bite you if your head's up your arse.

There is a couple hills at the end that are pretty steep. I usually have to use brakes along with engine brake to adjust for traffic. None are any big deal for a decent engine brake.

You can go too slow down a hill thousands of times, you’ll only go down it too fast once is what my Dad taught me

Nobody would know his name it it weren’t for the truck on the shoulder (probably taking his 30 min break or making a sandwich). Obviously he should have taken the ramp.

only used my brakes once in the past month on downhills.

if the truck ain’t slowing down on its own with jakes on down hill then your in the wrong gear. That’s how I drive.

Man im sure friction braking would have atleast helped. I'd have ground that truck into the side of mountain or guard rail. Would have looked like a cartoon cutaway where bugs is in half s vehicle.

You can go down a steep grade too slow hundreds of times. You can go too fast just once.
