    For Manual Transmissions (Didn't seem to work in Auto-shift):
    Downhill = One Gear LOWER than climbing Gear, yet depends upon GRADE, LENGTH of DESCENT, WEIGHT.
    Jakes Work and Do Not (see sentence above).

    NC, I-40 Eastbound from Black Mountain.
    2 Runaway Ramps (which appear useless if Brakes Fail considering all Curves prior to both [and Double Jersey Walls?] in Median).
    STEEP GRADE.
    Jakes, Lower Gear, and could easily Smoke Brakes with 35 mph Posted Speed.

    I-26 Eastbound from Asheville, NC. FINAL DROP: STEEP, CURVY, NO RUNAWAY RAMP(S).
    I've, ONCE, Smoking Trailer Brakes Eastbound at about 80K weight, in Auto-shift.

    I'm a little confused, article said 4 people died, yet he was charged with 6 counts of vehicular homicide. Where'd the other 2 come from? Or am I missing something?

    I have driven autoshifts in the mountains (8% and more)grossing 140k in Canada with no problems at all, the trick is to lock the transmission in manual shift!!
    That way you can stay in the gear you need to go down the hill safely.
    If you don't know how to lock the transmission in manual then
    READ THE FRICKIN' DRIVERS MANUAL.
