$250 is small change to what they make on some of these loads.
Example: I was making a delivery to a factory a couple of weeks ago, there was a foreign guy from Cali. backed in beside me with his hood up looking at his engine. I asked him if I could help him or what kind of problems he had, loose clamp on a heater hose and I tightened it up for him. We got to talking, he was loading a load for Phoenix, 1500 miles from where we were, for $1600.00 I almost choked when he told me that. He got the load from one of the well known big box brokers.
Later, I go into the shipping office snooping around as I always do if I think I can make a new direct contact. Got to talking to the shipping manager, and I asked about the Phoenix load they have. He says yes we ship that once a week, I asked how much are you paying the broker to get it moved, $3300.00 yes $3300.00
How can you blame the brokers when guys are out here short selling themselves by that much and willing to work for next to nothing.

It doesn't quite mean they will always pay you better than the broker. Sure some deal with the shipper even if they got the same rate from the broker.
-
I didn't say that. My point was, the broker made $1700 off the load all because the Owner Operator agreed to haul it for $1600. If you are going to be successful as an Independent you have to learn lanes and keep up with rates/lanes and supply and demand. If you let a broker rape you that is your own fault.

It wasn't towards you chief. It was directed at 6wheeler. Good for you for getting that info from the shipper though.whoopNride Thanks this.

I had a broker pressure me to deliver fracking sand composite in a time that was impossible to meet. They pressure the carriers and told my receiver that the load is late because the driver is late. The carrier did not tell the broker that the shipper was 15 hrs late, and the broker goes and tells my receiver I'm a day late, but they didn't mention the fact that my shipper went home early and left me there waiting 15 hours to get loaded.
They will create lies to avoid being fined and blame the driver WITHOUT getting the facts straightMtn Gal and stayinback Thank this. -
Thats very true dog-c..........
They will certainly make the carrier take the pain before they would tell the truth.
I personally avoid their toxic ways as much as i can......
Last Broker Load i moved was a Backhaul 2 weeks ago From Kearny,NJ to Chicago.....Just a Pain in the ### from start to finish
Of Course I Always make the customer aware of the smoothness (or lack of) transporting their material
You Have to get your own customers folks....You'll thank me years from now. -
Do they call you nonstop with 'where are you' questions?
When I was hauling an aircraft parts load with Landstar this broker would not stop calling....every 3 minutes he would call. -
Nah..Its far beyond the calls- Thats just 1 of many disappointments.....
-
They are taking way more than 80cpm.... Another load my customer gave me what they quoted him, they were charging him $4400 and offered me $3500. On the return, charged him $3800, offered me $2800, with the famous quote following " Thats all I have in the load"....Iron-Man, Mtn Gal and whoopNride Thank this.

Way more than $250. Maybe $250 on some loads, but I have found they are getting way more than that. Like I put in an earlier post.... Southern Cal to San Francisco they were charging $1750, and offered me $850. You do that math.6wheeler Thanks this.
