Very good idea there. Leave the cheap freight sitting. Sooner or later, the shippers and brokers will realize that it's not going to move at the crappy rates.

Yep, don't mess with the gen. public. I remember the last time there was a "truckers strike" I think. The Levittown gas riot of 1978.
I was 16 and coming on the ramp of us#13 from Tullytown in my 1969 Dart GT 340.
A trucker moved to let me in we were in the middle of a large yes "Convoy" of trucks.
As I was along side of him he was yelling part of what I can remember making out was something like "F those Arabs and you want to be able to afford gas again don't you, come on" and he waved his hand for me to follow. Now of course as a 16 yr. old motor head I followed. The whole thing got bottled up at the 5 points intersection and luckily I had pulled into a development down the road a bit which is the only way I was able to escape the mayhem later.
In a nut shell this ended up lasting 3 days and some wasted locals trashed a few businesses. The local cops freaked and called Rizzo's Raiders (Philly Cops) for help.
That culminated in guns, clubs etc. and not very pretty.
And ultimately of course the gen. public thinks it was all the truckers fault. -
Please define "cheap freight"
I except an argument over that question.
maybe Achmed can make a profit on $1.00 /mile freight. But Billy Bob can't break even until $1.75/mile.
And therein lies part of the problem.
Divide and conquer! No wonder we continue to lose!!!

The average steering wheel holder can't find their ### with both hands and you want them to choose between good paying and cheap freight. How would you propose a Schneider/Werner/Celadon/Swiftie etc etc etc decide if freight is cheap or not when they don't have a clue to waht the rate is?

This is not for companydrivers, the paycheck for this peoples is for miles, were talking about owner operators,I think were can changes nothing for this iam not strike I live my live and do my job alone, only iam not pick up the very cheap fright
Lilbit Thanks this. -
I think when the dot ,take the bad drivers from the street the rate go up,less good drivers the shipper have to pay more money for drivers to move the fright,I think the idea is very good,to much bad drivers on the street

Truly, if you wish to make a difference and get the point across, no one has to strike or do a deliberate slow down.
It is as simple as following the letter of the law.
Do exactly what is required by law and no more. It will infuriate customers, brokers, dispatchers, and companies.
Worked for us. When they realized we couldn't be made to act in an unproductive manner for our family the underhanded bullying ceased. Now we are not asked to do things that inhibit our bottom line.
Required sacrfice originally but the outcome far out weighed the initial loss. Nothing of value is ever gained without effort and most people don't want to give to get. And most people lack the ability to look into the future and see that a sacrfice today is a treasure tomorrow.jimmys, truckerdave1970 and SmoothShifter Thank this. -
I've spent some time trucking in Miami in the last handful of years, and the one thing I remember is the truckers, especially the container haulers, are the most arrogant and rude drivers I've ever seen.
And I have almost 20 years of NYC experience to compare it to.
Good drivers hauling under-priced freight will have no effect on the rate. There will never be a driver shortage until they make obtaining a CDL as difficult as it was 30 years ago.
In this economy, people will hop on board and learn to drive, get paid crap wages and be happy with it. An immigrant from Russia will be overjoyed to earn 35K a year compared to his home country, even though he can barely understand the road signs.
I refuse to press 1 for English. If I moved to Germany, I would learn to speak and write German.
