I was discussing my comments in this thread last night in another place. It was brought to my attention that I missed something VERY important. If you currently hold a CDL and get caught and convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol EVEN in your personal vehicle YOU PER per 383.51 are disqualified from operating a CDL required vehicle for one full year!
DOT alcohol test.

If you fail to show up they may consider it a refusal and you will be terminated and will have to complete SAP trading, and you might be lucky to get hired by a decent company, drink plenty of water, eat some heave food and you should be good.

Urine screen yes, Alcohol yes IF ON DUTY! NO if off duty. This was covered by post #34. After reading over this thread again I was reminded of something that happened at a Ready Mix business back in my old hometown. A guy was told to be ready to go blow on a Monday morning. He got drunk and drank all weekend forgetting about that. Hungover that Monday morning he simply called in sick. End of story!goga Thanks this.

It's always good to know your limits, especially when unexpected tests come up. I recently found this bac calculator that's super helpful for understanding how alcohol affects you.

If you are a truck driver, you already know how much alcohol you can drink. You cannot drink any or be under the influence of alcohol within 4 hours of coming on duty. And if tested you are not allowed to have any detectable alcohol in your system. Up to 0.03%, you will be placed out of service for 24 hrs. You would have to notify your employer and the state drivers licensing bureaus within that 24 hrs. At most companies at this point you will be unemployed.
0.04% is a dui. No tolerance there. In the drivers personal vehicle, the standard is 0.08%. Get a dui in your car and you get your CDL suspended for a year. A 2nd dui in a car is a lifetime CDL ban.
