When the law came into place you had to register your med card at the DMV a company I drove for wanted me to get my renew physical at least a month early.I spose because of all their drivers they wanted to make sure it's done and back in their file on time.

Most companies are like that now, they've had or heard of a driver finding out there license was suspended or downgraded while being inspected by dot on the other side of the country and being put out of service. Ever since the new law a couple years back about registering your med card with the dmv, the dmv has had issues getting files updated or indicating that they received the new med card. It's been a cluster for many drivers. Even drivers that have walked the med card into the dmv office, watched then scan it into the system and get told it's been update have found later at the scale house their license was suspended for an outdated med card.

You can take the physical any time you want before it expires, including the next day. there are no restrictions on that, but you have to update the status too.

I don't know your situation, but if you're near 40, heavy set and your neck measures more than 17 inches I'd go sooner rather than later so you can begin the sleep study process, which is not quick by any means.

I may sound paranoid, but it's for good reason ;)

Google your state and "CDL self-certification" in that material will be what happens and when if your medical expires.
