After getting a ticket just outside of K'zoo for having my tandems 6" UNDER length, I won't run my truck in Michigan anymore.
I asked him when they came up with that law? He said it'd been on the books for thirty years. I called BS and told him 20 years previous, I drove for NTB and ran with my tandems all the way up every #### day between Lansing and Detroit... never a hassle.
20-30 years ago, I can't ever remember even speaking to a DOT cop in Michigan. Now they are rabid.

I got a Level 2 at that little coup in Belt. One of the worst snow storms you'd ever seen. Dude's dipping my tanks, looking at the engine with a flashlight for leaks. They do not like giving clean reports. I needled them best as I could when dude couldn't find anything.Trucker61016, TheLoadOut, D.Tibbitt and 3 others Thank this.

Ooo yeah 4th of july pass and lookout pass. They aint to bad. I had 1 day this winter i picked a load in missoula, delivery in CDA , deadhead back to missoula , deliver again in cda and then reloaded in spokane and delivered next mrning in missoula. Yep chained/unchained 6 times in 1 day, snowing all day long. Thats always fun but we got er done while the otr guys were parked at the trck stop in haugan. Talking on the cb radio about how chaining up aint worth it and only stupid people chain up. Thats always a fun convo to listen to when ur on the 3rd load of the day and and 6th chain job of the day.Trucker61016, Gatordude, Accidental Trucker and 2 others Thank this.

You gotta think tho as a company man it really ain’t worth chaining up.
Most company guys making less then 50cpm max speed of 45mph with chains on plus the possibility of an accident?
as an owner operator or percentage paid company guy id chain up without missing a beat.
Now I don’t even carry chains “if you need chains park that mfer I don’t need some ####### killing em selves on my truck” as bob says it.
(I carry mud chains not snow chains)Trucker61016 and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -

My first job in trucking was with a smaller mega, and every truck carried chains but we were only allowed to chain up in emergencies. They would rather have a late delivery than have a worker's comp claim. I've never chained up in my driving career and don't plan on it.

After 6 chain ups and offs in one day I think I may have been sitting in Haugan looking at those 50,000 Silver Dollars while having a stiff drink or three.Trucker61016, LameMule, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this.

I had to chain up on I-40 once from west Memphis to Little Rock. February 2011. Took 8 hours to get that stretch. Looked like a mad max film the whole way
Northeast Hillbilly and D.Tibbitt Thank this.
