14 hours is more than enough.
Truck driving attracts “simple minded people”
Can’t these people find themselves a decent paying job or can’t they budget their money and live within their means?

Wonderful, now my slave-driver company can work us all 16 instead of the normal 13–14. Certainly they won’t ever take advantage of that...:(

Only in America can you find a bunch of dumb ####s that want to work longer to make the same $ or less. “Work smarter, not harder”. Learn it, know it, live it...

It’s not that one wants to necessarily work 14 hours/day. The 14 is merely a window the government has determined you should be given an opportunity to drive.

Real world issues in OTR trucking frequently cause long unpaid delays well outside the driver’s control and the 14 becomes more of an albatross than a “quality of life” measure. But if you work in some sheltered trucking job where real and easy schedules are always expected and realized, you wouldn’t understand this.

Do any of you honestly think this has anything to do with drivers, safety, or the welfare of drivers?

Or is it because the corporations are losing money in employees needed to load / unload trucks, and monies paid out in detention time?

At what point did you think the rest of the people involved in the trucking industry view the driver as anything more than a sub human?

Yeah, the companys would never consider better pay and benefits to attract more drivers, let's just work theses dumb ##### 16 hours a day on straight time and tell them they are making more money.

Let’s have the government ban OTR trucking and regulate the trucking industry like they used too.
Plus strenghen the emission standards because I like clean air.

Since the mega companies only want to pay 44 cents per mile, you'll need to work 24 hours a day and drive 77 mph just to keep up with the standard of living

Trucking is my "Work Smarter, Not Harder"... Most of my adult life I have worked worked 60 to 80 hours a week doing hard, manual, physical labor; (a lot of which was all outside in the elements... 100 degree summer days, to -25 degree winter nights) and made half what I make with my 70 hours as a driver, mostly in a climate controlled cab. If you don't want to work longer than you do now, then by all means don't. Just send a Qualcomm message that says "Suffering fatigue, I'm going to Sleeper Berth." But don't tell others they can't or shouldn't do what they know they are safely capable of doing to better themselves and thier families.

And don’t force your rules on me because you’re a masochist that gets off on working round the clock. I don’t need to work 60-70 hours a week to get by, but you guys with this mentality are the reason it’s #### near impossible to find any trucking job that’s 45 hours a week or less. Every company assumes every ####### trucker wants 60-70 hours a week.
