Your post for some reason reminded me of something funny. I have said several times in here that my father and a Georgia DOT enforcement officer back years ago were good church friends. One day this officer was telling pop about stopping an LTL driver and telling him they needed to take that box of headlights back. The driver said ,why? He said well for the past week you have come through my scale with that light out. Since I know you would never not do a pre trip those lights must be going bad.

Quit over a headlight? No. When you stopped to buy a replacement bulb, hopefully you bought 2 so that next time one burns out you can stop, toss the new one on and continue down the road...

It happens. Take a deep breath and keep on truckin. Be prepared for the next one. If you're really paranoid then stop somewhere and check everything before you cross the scales.

How come lights only go out a night?
How come wipers only mess up when it is raining?
How come air conditioning only goes out in the summer?
How come the heat only stop working in the winter?

The headlights could be on when you are pulled over for inspection, and one blows DURING the inspection, and you'll get written for it. I had that happen with a brake line...sitting in the bay, officer under the truck measuring stroke..."brakes on"...so I step on the brakes, 6-8 seconds go by, and then I hear a "POP...hisssssss". No citation, but written warning (points) and OOS (more points).

Guy I used to work with pulled on a scale, and as he was pulling off again, a trailer tire went "KABOOM!" Green light turned red, they flagged him around for an inspection, and cited him for the blown tire which they saw and heard explode.

Some DOT are pricks...most just want to do their job. Either way, you get the points...but the pricks cost you money.
