Minor correction: the overall sticker designates the actual month/year of the passed inspection. The number is the last digit of the year, & the color/shape breakdowns are:

Green:
January (2 corners ripped off sticker)
February (1 corner ripped off sticker)
March (complete rectangle)
Yellow:
April (2 corners removed)
May (1 corner removed)
June (full rectangle)
Orange:
July (2 corners removed)
August (1 corner removed)
September (full rectangle)
White:
October (2 corners removed)
November (1 corner removed)
December (full rectangle)

The northern-cali DOT officer who taught my truck school this used this expression to help remember the order of the colors: "Grow Your Own Weed" (that's norcal for you)


A fresh sticker will prevent you from getting pulled in for a random inspection for 3 months (but wont save you if an officer spots a violation from afar)

 

Take the truck to a TA/Petro that does inspections. They will go over it very closely and it is cheap. Something like $60 only.

They search for everything wrong with the hopes of getting to do the costly repairs!
