Hey,
I am about to enroll in school, so I went to get my DOT physical. Because I take medicine for blood pressure and diabetes I passed but was only given a 1 year card. I have a few questions about that.
1) Will having a 1 year card hurt me, especially in getting a job?
2) If I go to another medical office and don't tell them i'm on the meds, would I be able to get a full 2 year card?
3) do the DOT regulations require that i am able to pass the requirements WITHOUT medications to get the full 2 year card? Or, is controlled sufficient?

Since you came here looking for answers, let me oblige. BP meds do not show up on wee-wee tests. If you tell the Doc you're on BP meds, you get a one year card. If you don't mention it, you'll get a 2 year card. I can't answer about diabetes meds since I don't know. As far as a truck company hiring or not hiring you because you have high BP, I don't think it makes any difference, usually. Again, I can't answer about diabetes. However, morally, you should answer any medical questions TRUTHFULLY. Just like your tax forms, right ? And log books.
Everett and wildbill123 Thank this. -
My medical card is for 2 yrs and I told the doctor I was on BP medicine.
Everett Thanks this. -
i dont lie on my paper loose leaf logs

It depends on the doctors office whether they fail you or not for high BP.One company could'nt hire me thats when I knew I had high BP and once I got back to the city I went to the doctor and he perscribed medicine.Hopefully he gets a doctor that isn't real anal about everything. This last physical I had for the company im at now was about as laid back as they get.Which is always good at getting you relaxed so you're more likely to pass.

If you are on BP meds;as I am,you should be happy with a 1 year card-as I am. If you do not tell the doc, sure you will get a 2 year card;but if involved in a fatal accident during your 2nd year even an average lawyer will find out. In conclusion: IT WILL NOT BE GOOD FOR YOU.
As unpopular as it seems to be...Tell the truth as if you don't it will bite you in the ###. -
a "wee-wee" test at the time of the physical, will show results of sugar.
so you WILL ALWAYS GET, a one year card.
Actually, if the "wee-wee" test shows sugar??
YOU WILL GET either a 1 month or 3 month card, till you can prove your diabetes IS UNDER CONTROL.
Then a 1 year card every DOT physical after that.
Best NOT TO LIE about diabetes. Unless you crave having to go back and forth several times to update that 3 month card. -
Not what he wants to hear but at least he'll know what to expect when he does take his physical.
-
Not too many want to hear the truth.
Only what they want to hear, and that is always rosy colored things.
Oh well, not my problem. -
Is it not "Best" to not lie about anything? C'mon people...Be better than that..................................................................................d o g Thanks this.
