I agree with all on the list but a single exception. Prison guards aren't exactly the exemplary example of all that shine. In fact, they are responsible for the majority of drugs and other contraband in prisons and the number of "compromised" COs is estimated to be more than half of those who are caught.
http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_19571608 and http://newsminer.com/view/full_stor...officer-gets-jail-time-in-drug-smuggling-case are but a few examples of an epidemic among crooked prison guards.

A lot of new people you won't agree with are being displaced from other jobs & flooding your "profession." I get my CDL tomorrow. I can follow the regulations just as I did in my obsolete job in health care. It's not rocket science, just 8 weeks in a community college. Scared? I have nightmares about it. Nevertheless, here we come!

It may not be rocket science, but it does require you to pay attention to what you are doing along with every other idiot on the road. Following the regulations is only part of it. It's 8 weeks in a community college, then 6 weeks or so with a trainer who might or might not have a decent amount of experience to teach you how to really stay alive and survive the industry.

There have been plenty that have been 'displaced' from other jobs that have come through here, thought it would be a cakewalk, and are now gone. They couldn't handle the industry itself, being away from home, etc.

I have seen guys who can drive 12 hrs straight in a car, cant do 8 in a truck. It is mentally exhausting. There are 10 times more fctors involved. Its not just setting the cruise and sipping coffee.

Then why do you call me out on my stance on pot or any other drug/ I made it perfectly clear or so I thought about someone who is abusing any drug (alcohol included) but as it is Right Now pot IS Illegal and should stay that way. If the federal government brought back prohibition it would take millions out of the countries tax base, any one knows that...besides pot can and does lead to a person taking the harder drugs Iv'e heard. I never have tried it or never drank alcohol (can't stand the taste)...never will... but If you want to use it puff away my friend. I believe its use has no place in our industry as well as alcohol does not either...we are not gonna agree on this subject 900,000 -tons -of-steel but I don't see that as a problem we all have our own ideas about things. And I respect your position just don't agree with it.

Seems to me that since you have no actual experience with the stuff all you can really say is that you strongly oppose it. Beyond that, any further statements you make are only based on hearsay and assumptions.

So..."You've heard" that pot leads to harder drugs...interesting...
So you think that pot users should be punished because they "might" try using other drugs
and the foundation of your argument is based on hearsay.

You don't know anything about it, yet you disagree vehemently. You're being irrational.

You will find that most or at least a good number of the occupations you have listed have people that regularly smoke pot. The only time I did smoke was while I was in the Navy.

Not condoning it just say'in. The problem with pot is that the test does not tell when you were stoned only that you were stoned. I'm against any form of drug that impair your ability to drive at least while you are in a or operating a vehicle.

If you choose to smoke and you get caught you know the consequences. If your a student your probably not going to get your license, just the way it is.

I don't believe that in most cases it leads to harder drugs, but it certainly does for some.

I'm referring to your double-standard shared by so many in the industry who lambast pot but mistakenly believe alcohol is somehow safer or OK simply because it's legal. You say "alcohol included" then you turn right around and disqualify your statement and position by attempting to defend it with the tax revenue angle. You're missing the point. By this same token and your approach, one can say the country is losing even MORE tax revenue by not legalizing pot ... everyone knows this, too. And the old false adage that "pot leads to harder drugs" is a drug war scare and fallacy that's been debunked thoroughly by accredited institutions world wide. The real "gateway drugs" (if such a term can be accurately employed) are tobacco and alcohol. BY the same logic, one can also say "milk" is a gateway substance as almost everyone who does drugs or drinks or smokes had milk FIRST. See the ludicrousness of such a theory? Secondly, you make the common mistake and err of assuming I smoke because of my position. This isn't about -me- yet for some reason you feel the need to make it personal and about me. I don't smoke or drink or do any drugs. I did smoke pot for years. Raised a family, had a resourceful and rewarding career for more than 25 years. Now that I'm retired from that career and come back to the job that helped pay for college back in the '80s, I gave it up some time ago. I don't need to work, I choose to. I -never- did any other drugs and I don't drink so there goes your theory about it leading to harder drugs. Now, your last comment takes you back to your first comment of which you then disqualified ... I don't believe it has any place in many jobs and positions, such as this industry, either, but then again, NEITHER DOES ALCOHOL and the empirical evidence proves beyond a shadow of a doubt it is much more dangerous and damaging. While I can respect many opinions, I do not respect opinions held by those who are uniformed and -choose- to remain uninformed when presented evidence to the contrary. When people are so steadfast in their belief and loathe to learn new things in lieu of new evidence contraindicating their opinions, hypocrisy often rears its ugly head.

SO sorry we don't see this the same way..but I'm not going to try and argue my stance. I had a driving career that spanned over 30 years with a perfect accident free record...I have my way of looking at drug use/abuse and you have yours. I'm just being realistic when I talk about the way the government handles alcohol and drugs. The law is what it is...you think that alcohol and pot should be classified the same way...I don't. On that point we do agree. But that is what is great about this country.... we can disagree and try to change those things we feel need to be changed with our votes. I spent over a year in Viet Nam fighting for Both of us to keep that right....I can completely see your logic and reasoning but I don't think the same...however 'm not going to call you ant silly names, like a hypocrite. We are from different generations and are always gonna have different views....You take care working as long as you choose to...... drive safe.......
