For whatever it is worth, I had a dot physical this past week and did have a colorblind test
The one with the numbers in the colored circles like so:
http://colorvisiontesting.com/ishihara.htm -
after thinking about it I think they did ask me about some colors on the chart
-
You only have to be able to distinguish traffic colors, like red from green. A lot of eye charts will also have color bars, such as red or green and they ask you to name the colors. That's been my experience anyhow.
-
Thanks for the input, I'm not as worried about it now. As long as its just the bars I should be fine.
-
You are required to distinguish between red, green and amber only according to the federal guidelines. It should not be the dot test (also called Ishihara test), however I'm not sure how other offices do this. At our office, we just test between those three colors (non Ishihara).
Apd Thanks this. -
I just took my Dot recert today and a colorblindness test was given. Doc opened a drawer and there were five small balls of yarn that I had to identify by their color. That's all there was to it.

That's correct and the minimum FMCSR 391.41 (b) (10). However a company can add any test they like so it's no telling unless you talk with someone that just got their physical for that particular company.
