Some do; I have a list of 7 companies that do:
    TransAm
    Paschall Truck Lines
    Freymiller
    Lessors Inc.
    Magnum Ltd.
    J&R Schugel
    CRST

I'm pretty sure there's plenty more I'm not aware of. I frequently give this list to drivers that have the DOT medical card for cdl school, now they're worried about getting to their first company and flunking the trucking company physical, usually due to sleep apnea that some companies push. @David_Simpson

Thats great. I almost fell into that trap myself. Company DOT docs quacks get apnea kick back... Since DOT med card is now a Federal Card, because doctors have to be in Federal Registry, then Companies should be in there too and HAVE TO accept the DOT med card if you have one with more than 3 months on it, lets say. Companies are destroying the value of the DOT med card b not honoring one from other than "their" doctors. There needs to be a law passed to prevent companies from effectivuly bypassing the Federal system of why they started the DOT med card and registry in the first place.
It was not started to benefit any one particular company. The companies use their "docs" to throw out all older good drivers and replace them with cheap younger ones even if they get into more accidents I guess ? Well TG not all companies think like this

    This is a older thread.

It does not matter where you get your DOT.

When you get your CDL and have your valid original DOT Medical to go with it. Hold on to that one. It's valid.

All companies throw that out and send you to their company doctor for a DOT medical. They can BE MORE STRICTER than DOT regulations. For example Covenant likes to exclude deaf who use hearing aids to be DOT Legal like those who wear glasses. I found that out in 1996 and was sent home within 4 hours. The audiology etc and supporting documents in paper from previous week did not matter to them a whit. Yer out. Bye.

Thats fine I just joined another outfit and was rolling before too long on after the same papers and test passed that company doctor. It did not take too long.

My case is just one example of what can happen.

    However.

People can point to DOT medical for federal this or federal that or whatever. It's all hooey. Why? Because all companies WILL disregard that and send you to their specific doctor. And if they happen to find sleep apena and all sorts of other problems to saddle you with? Then you wasted time and money with the wrong company. Always get a second opinion. Or if it was never raised by your original DOT doctor who gave you a two year or whatever, then you don't worry about it.

The day will come when people hold a DOT Medical from wherever source and it will be treated as valid and not messed with by any company. But that will be a pie in the sky pipe dream which will never happen.
