How does a yard jockey make $15 an hour while a driver only makes $10?:?

The ATA, aka big company lobby group, has pushed for this for years. Now that there is a possibility of the Democrats losing office, they know the time is now. The public will be rah rah right behind this. Slow those big mean trucks down.........until they have to drive with it. My thoughts on this for awhile have been oh well just another rule. Now I'm like to hell with it. Jam up the hiways.
Now I know this part will be controversial but if the government wants to make the hiways safer by legislation, try this. Legislate that all commercial drivers must be paid by the hour. Takes the hurry out of your day for the most part.

Appointments, traffic rush times, traffic backups/accidents, getting home, etc. These are things that don't care wether the pay is by the mile or the hour. Same job still has to be done, grocers still want their product JIT.

This yard jockey should make 4 Bucks an hour, but the OTR driver that lowered the 41,000 pounds of freight got nothing extra

Side by side truck races at 65 MPH on a two lane interstate won't happen. Part of the law will be something like "you must complete a pass in less than one mile"... Just like DPF and electronic logs, this is being funded by mega fleets that want an even playing field.

130 MPH cars on the same road as 65 MPH trucks.... What could possibly go wrong?

Nothing! The 130 mph car slamming into the back end of my 65 mph semi.... any problem, current or future is eliminated! It is the Darwin Principle applied in it's purest form!

The speed limiter is an attempt to put the little guys out of business.
Its going to cost them upwards of $ 22,000 and up a year depending on the limits
    imposed according to researchers

This is just another step in the plan to shift freight from trucks to rail.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. By the time I retire, OTR will have been replaced by rail transport, and most driving jobs will be local/regional from railyards to consignees, and from shippers to railyards.

We had speed limiters in the 1980s on mechanical engines. I drove a 1982 international cabover governed at 58 mph. They could be easily bypassed with a safety pin and a marker light. We would leave the yard and stop a couple of miles up the road and get in the side box were the limiter was mounted and stab the power wire and then ground the light presto wide open.
