Years ago when I first started driving, I hauled grain.
Well the one DOT cop got smart and would sit at the exit we used to get to the one big grain elevator.
We would come down the ramp and he would pull you over and pop you on the portables.
We were trapped so to speak.

Yeh, but you're least likely to be pulled into a station for inspection at night and I have never seen or even heard of a road side inspection (portable) done at night.

It doesn't matter what is going on DB, there will always be a percentage of folks who think the big bad cops are picking on them. . .:biggrin_25513:

I agree. I never have had a DOT at night. Most of the scales in Texas close at 2pm during the hot months. When I was OTR I aways drove at night. There always was parking during the day at the truck stops for sleep. Down side is some of the major citys do heavy road repair at night now.

Don't bet on that---I have seen lots and lots--had a few myself--
Most of you have seen my other posts about this subject--so remember I am not complaining about DOT--it all comes with the territory--just clarifying my experiences with nite time inspections--roadside and otherwise.
    Just my $.02:biggrin_25519:

Maybe they're trying to build a case for new/proposed HOS rules...

Read carefully and understand, my key words were least likely.

Texas has very few active scales as most of you know. But they do have a large fleet of Burbs set up for roadside inspections. You can drive for months and never see an inspection and then wham-4-10 of them stopping lots of rigs. See a lot of this in NW FTW.Roanoke/Rhome area. Lot of criminal illegals driving gravel/sand rigs with rotten everything. Pretty easy to spot. Always got some worn out Shaker w/sleeper. Primer, bad tires, smoking, speeding ,etc. You know the kind.
