My husband works as a AAA emerg services tow operator driving a 2014 F-550 rollback. His boss requires all the operators to stay continuously "on call" for six days straight, then gives them two days off. Daytime (8am-5:30pm) they run for salary only. After hours the run for commission only. If a driver fails to tow at night, or if he's run ALL day AND a long 8 hour tow at night, he still has to report for work the next day, or he will get docked his night commission. All or in part! To keep his money, our drivers literally run for 24-38 hours continuously!! I had to threaten his boss last time he was pushed, that I would turn the company in to the DOT. He said the DOT doesn't require tow operators to adhere to Hours of Op regs. He doesn't keep a log, and has never been asked for one. Why do bosses push like that!

It's all about the bottom line. I used to run a service truck and being that the truck's gvw was over the limit, I had to run a log book. Working 14's everyday sure ate up the 70 hour cycle fast.

This a!$#hole he works for now is a joke!! No logs, no maintenance on the trucks, except when one breaks down!! Grrr! He owns expensive street rods, and his work force barely makes a living wage!!

It's very simple and if a good businessman owns the company then things are run like they should. It's got everything to do if the truck is a CMV and if it's not then the boss should let the NON-CDL be is own judge on how long and how he/or she operates the vehicle, if he//or she good. Check the weight and if it exceeds the requirement then get the little green book and shut the door for the weekend. You'll need the time if you know nothing.
