SGT you could have a brand new truck fresh from the assembly line and DOT will find something wrong with it.

I've seen that happen, at Manchester Tn. That sort of stuff is one reason that I think these folks who are all for this csa 2010 are in for a surprise. If Mr DOT wants to write a ticket he can find something to write it for.

I've got a related question. (hypothetical of course) Let's say that you are inspected on private property and your truck is placed out of service. Now you cannot move the truck without making repairs (and lets say that you cannot make them without a mechanic). The result is that there is now a truck blocking/taking up space on private property

How is this handled? Do you (and/or the company) owe the property owner rent/storage fees? Does the property owner just "donate" the use of their property to the state? Are agreements made with law enforcement prior to stopping trucks there? How long do you have to either repair or tow the truck? If you take forever and a day to do so does the property owner have any form of redress either with the trucking company or the state?

Yeah, getting an OOS does present problems sometimes. I've seen the Cops let the driver limp into a close-by repair facility if the truck is somewhat safe to drive. But private property owners don't have to allow a broken down truck sitting on their lot waiting for repairs. You could be looking at a tow bill.

    KO1927 Thanks this.

A DOT certified LEO can performed an inspection pretty much anywhere and anytime they feel safe to do one. I've seen inspections done in Rest Areas. Its pretty much up to the owner of the property whether or not you can stay. Also the DOT can find something to put a truck OOS if they want to look hard enough. The trick is not to give them an excuse to look real hard. I had a Banning Coop DOT officer tell me the biggest reason the majority of drivers who get a ticket or put OOS is by giving them a hard time.

You think 4 years is impressive? I've been out here 10 years & never had a full blown inspection. I've had paper checks & walk arounds.... Never had a creeper or a DOT officer under my trucks! And I've driven some crappy equipment as well.

It's simple really. Keep your equipment clean. Keep your permits up to date. Keep your log book up to date. Do the speed limit. And just practicee safe driving in general. DOT watches.....

I had a MO DOT in a blue unmarked van with just a flashing lite on the dash flag me over. We run on 29 and he tapped his mic,so I jumped over to 19 as I was trying to get over to the side. He said to go to the next exit and make a right and there was a big church on the corner. He said to go in the parking lot and as I am making the turn I spot an no truck sign. Now, I have a choice, obey God or the Devil...yikes. Maybe he was a member there, who knows. I went in the church lot and came out with, not a Bible, but a ticket for securement. Crap. I was short 1 chain on the middle pipe on a 5 pipe load. He also had a problem with the rubber gaskets laying inside the pipe, which we all do, but not me anymore.
