DOT Scale Skippin’

After having had dealt with West Coast(CA/OR/WA) scales for a few years, I've found the CO scales to be rather easy to deal with. Either a green light, or "Thanks, return to highway". Of course I go up to the Denver metro with milk tanks as a normal thing as well.

 

Because a level 1 is going to waste, at minimum, an hour of your time.

 

Colorado scales are pretty easy, a little too easy, I've seen a few offline comments that the wreck in 2019 might have been prevented if the scales were open more frequently and doing more inspections. Those new "super coops" being built at Ft. Collins look interesting

 

I think that's maybe part of why they changed it, CSP did clean house though and got rid of a few that took their jobs a little too seriously, and didn't qualify to work for CSP

 

Spent $734 for 132 gallons this morning, it's been an expensive month regardless of the hood size

 

Why spend all that time driving around scales? I did that earlier in my career. Now I just drive past them!

 

I don't drive up that direction. I usually go as far north as Platteville and then turn around for my next one to bring up. There's also that median scale on 85 just south of Platteville that's ready to go. But seems closed all the time. Usually just either local PD or CSP clocking speeders.

As for that CA-style supercoop, perhaps it could be for that very reason. Of course it would be of more use in the mountains to ensure brakes are being checked. Just like all the shooting incidents made CO change up their gun laws in the past decade(namely that 15 round mag cap and individual cities/towns making their own restrictions/relaxing of certain weapons, but that's another thread), a bad driver and deaths finally led to some action being taken as far as trucks go.

Of course until it's open and pulling trucks in, we won't know "how hard they go" until drivers start reporting in here and over on the truckers subreddit over how harsh or how lax they are.

Until then. My only beef with CO will be how badly they let rent/mortgage get out of control. Nice area that's more or less off limits to people like myself that just want to be boring and stay home when not working.
