If coyote gave the load to that mercer agent knowing it was going to be brokered out, that makes it completely legit. If you hat any concerns about it, why didn't you call coyote?

Didn't really care, I mean it was a little annoying knowing Mercers cut was not in my pocket but, your right, Coyote farmed it to Mercer. If I called Coyote I'm sure they would have told me Mercer handles those loads.

I guess I stretched the meaning of double brokering to fit that situation, although there were 2 brokers involved and I wish there weren't.

Yep. It would be nice if there was as few hands in the pocket as possible. But realty is that's just not the way the industry works. Many large shippers give their loads to big brokerage firms like coyote knowing that coyote will then give it to other brokerages who will give it to others. It's rather common with the big shippers that need lots and lots of trucks.

Heck just a few years ago the dod would only use menlo who mastered the craft of having more than one broker involved. It's only been relatively recently that menlo is being phased out of the equation.

And let's not pretend this only happens in trucking. The equivalent happens in nearly every industry.

Landstar double brokers Penske Logistics loads and I know they are ok with that. Actually some of the best paying LS loads I did were from Penske. I can only imagine what price does the shipper pay on those loads

And so does every single carrier and brokerage firm. It's an industry accepted practice. The only time it is a problem is when they don't communicate that with each other.

The term double brokering isn't a literal definition, it's used when the second broker is deceitful with the first and hides the fact they will broker it out.

Ya know.......As I read all these posts,This is a GOOD thread, And a Good Thread to make useful knowledge to the less educated in transportation.....

spyder, pnw, dune and a host of others.......There's a peak that is never crested in "Truth" on transportation, ethics and customer relationships....

Gentlemen(And ladies)........Wouldn't it be nice just to know the truth on rates? Just for once? I bet you ask yourselves this at some point or another, right?

whether your leased on to an existing carrier-Or you are an independent........All you want to know is what the customer is truly paying, Who wants to be lied to,Right?

As I Have Posted In other threads.......

BROKERS have taken an Oath never to reveal customer Billed revenues-

I Don't care what they tell you-How much they "friend" you-

They are trained to manipulate You,As the Carrier.//What a Load Pays to any and all costs-
They Will Lie to their own Mothers.

If You Guys and Gals Really Knew What Freight Pays- You would become Sick to your stomach's vomiting for so many years of thinking what you "Thought" it Paid.

And this isn't about "Well,If Im happy with the rate,Who cares what the Broker makes"

Well,You Should Care, Because They Wont Ever display What it truly pays

I Used to work exclusively for Brokers and Broker-carriers(Landstar,Mercer etc)

It Made me Sick When I Found out the Truth in transportation- I Wanted to Rip their Heads off I was so Mad-

Guys- Customers (Whom pay Your Bills and the Brokers Bills) Want to Know how their funds are Distributed
    (Free piece of advice)........

I Finally Found peace of mind working for my own customers--And is it truly refreshing to see the difference.

You can request that information (billing transparency) from the broker after you complete the load and, they are required to provide it for you according to the FMCSA.
