It will depend on where the clutch engagement spot is, which can vary with the clutch adjustment. When you start out, and are letting the clutch out to get rolling, that is where you should depress past to fulling engage the clutch. You don't need to go all the way to the floor, or you will engage the clutch brake and kill it's life.

I don't see why people double clutch. It's easier to float. IMHO of course. Save your leg for when you do need it like sitting through a stop light 4-5 times. You leg will get shakey and start to hurt after a while of holding it. I've gotten to the point where I pop it out of gear and keep constant sight on the light and traffic in front of me when I've had to sit at a light long enough.

A trick to double clutching, leave your heel on the floor and your toe on the pedal then as soon as you get past the free play go in about an inch or two (depending on the truck) A guy I talked to on the bus ride to prime for my CDL taught me this. It's fool proof on those CDL tester's that want to see double clutching. Worked for me anyway.

I used to until I got good at "burping" the throttle to pull it out.

Me personally, haven't double clutched since school. It was required for the road test.

Doesn't double clutching improve MPG? Isn't this why a lot of companies want their driver's to double clutch?

Not really. It just helps protect the equipment from people who can't float the gears. And floating w/Jakes all the time can/will damage the engine according to Jake themselves.

I wouldn't suppose so. Mostly old farmers that run their own trucks.

I can float the shifts pretty good already (especially on the way up) for the limited amount of driving I have done. The problem is that apparently in AZ you HAVE to double clutch to pass the CDL test.

I will try the heel on the floor technique and pay a bit more attention on where my clutch is fully disengaged to see if that helps. I am just leary of pushing too far to engage the Clutch Brake.
