Me not useing a cluch i never use it.. -
I actually like double clutching. And the transmission in my truck seems to prefer it.
-
Not saying I never rub 'em.... of course. Hehehehe

On the DD15 it dropped so slow that I had the timing down to get the gear in without floating the throttle.

I feel the same way as my company does. We only hire drivers with experience and during the road test for hiring we require the driver to show us the usage of the clutch. It doesn't stop there, we want you to show us all you know about shifting. If you know how to float,OK, but we also want to know if you can skip gears on the way down and you always know what gear to be in at any given time. You can get the job if you only double clutch and you do it clean most of the time but you'll never get hired if you only know how to float.
So I suggest that being a new driver you learn how to double clutch and learn it well before you even think about floating. I've seen alot of times when a driver tries to float and the transmission will bang out of gear because the driver does not know the equipment well enough to make it work for him. The object is to be easy on the truck so the truck works for you and not the other way around. And to do that is to know the truck inside out. My 2¢.DrtyDiesel and pjay Thank this. -
GasHauler is totally correct.
I float up and down but when its cold in the midwest, the transmission is very sluggish until she warms up and I double-clutch just to make life easier.... -
It all depends on the the truck and transmission and what RPM your at.a
All trucks are not going to be the same.
You could have the same make and model of truck and same make and model transmission but could shift totally differently.
Some truck gears ya may have to double clutch other you many not to have to at all.
Some times power shifting may work all the time.
Or some times power shifting ever gear except one gear so you may have to double clutch only that one gear on the transmission because it is beening a pain in the but.
EXAMPLE. Gears 1 to 6 are aok to power shift, gear 7 you have to double clutch, Gears 8 to 10 are aok to power shift.
Remember most trucks now a days use a standard "H" pattern on Manuel transmission going up and down threw gears in order.
But that not the case on all Manuel transmissions.
Some you may come across are very strange one like on some old fords trucks, like an 8 speed that is not in order.

So double check the Shift pattern Decal and owner manuel....
