10 to 5 isn't too bad to do. It seems like a lot but trust me you can make 5 down shifts pretty rapidly. Biggest thing on test day is just relax. If you're stressed you'll screw up. 400 rpm is typically the range between gears on flat ground and you need to adjust accordingly depending on if you're loaded/empty and on flat ground/hills. It all comes with time.
