Ok, I have to admit, I love good doughnuts and coffee in the morning. But they can't just be regular store bought doughnuts. I like them fresh, preferably fried that day. Many places, like most Dunkin Donuts and Tim Hortons now bake their doughnuts, which is just awful in my opinion, but I understand the logistics behind it. That being said, I have been pleasantly surprised to find that many of the Pilots (but not all of them) have a couple of trays of real doughnuts that they have brought in every morning from a local doughnut shop or bakery. I had good luck at the location in Lima, Ohio. Also, the Rhodes Travel Center in Scott City, Missouri has theirs brought in from a local bakery in Perryville called Hoeckle's, and theirs are excellent, too. Anyone else share my passion for good doughnuts? Would love to hear where you find them and if they have truck parking? :biggrin_2559:

P.S. The best doughnuts I have ever had are in Forest Park, Georgia - Best Country Doughnuts. Apple Fritters are unbelievable. Every flavor is heaven.

I'm with ya' !! I've always loved real, home-made doughnuts. My dad worked in a bakery most of his life. He could also whip up some outstanding doughnuts at home. If I consumed them like I used to years ago, I would probably weigh 800 lbs now. I used to buy a couple of dozen at a time, just for me!! My favorites are maple long-johns, apple fritters, and the plain ol' glazed doughnut. Around here the best and about the only place to get them is at Daylight Doughnuts. It's a real small store located on W. 6th Ave in Emporia, Ks. The store was originally owned/operated by one of my Jr Highschool teachers and her husband.

With that said, if you also like home made cinnamon rolls, then Beto Junction T/A should be on your list. They are famous for their 2 lb cinnamon rolls.

Funny thing is my sister and I nearly bought a doughnut machine and fryer at a junk sale years ago. We were going to put it in a van and make it a street vendor doughnut van. I honestly think we would have eaten a the profit( and product as well ) LOL!

No, Really, with Pilot taking over, your want's and my want's are kinda gone! They don't care about the "big boys" any more. They can get the four wheeler in there to make up the extra cost. Those good days are gone again...sorry!

The Petro off I94 exit 333 in WI has pastry from the O&H Danish Bakery in Racine. It is to die for. Well, probably not the healthiest food but you've got to have a treat once in a while. You can even order kringles and such at their website htyp://www.ohdanishbakery.com

My Mom was from Odense Denmark and she'd order kringles at Christmas time. Man oh man is that good stuff!
