Down hill under new owner.

it boils down to the business isn't what it used to be. with the skyrocketing maintenance costs and the new regulation throttling income potential. and new entries unaware of actual costs it is not worth the 'heartache'/ hassel of running an outfit. you have to love it to live it and that is a tall order these days. shear size is the only factor in income success and you can't run a 500 truck fleet from one office.

 

I am with Jim Palmer out of Missoula, they treat me well, I pretty much run west, I am casually on a load now going to Kalispell,Mt.

 

I would not really want to own a company what with the pending rules and law coming down from Uncle Sam requiring me to hire 1000 more drivers so everyone can sleep all day and do a few hours driving each day.

A note. Im not trying to be difficult, if you see a problem with a failing company, it will usually show up first in lack of maintaince on your equiptment and then into a poor payroll cycle. We left FFE July of 01 when brokers failed to pay FFE in 15 days then 30 days then 45 days on a load delivered by us, a husband and wife team running 7000 miles a week if not more. Our paychecks came in at 0.00 3 weeks in a row with a total of 6 trips and about 2100 net unpaid. We got it paid and then gave notice. We never borrowed money and had about 14,000 in savings that summer. SO migratation was hard on our loyalty and hearts but easier to deal with when moving into a better outfit moving million dollar loads with virtually instant payment via satellite and direct deposit the moment your 5th wheel CLANKS!

I understand brokers wont pay for up to 120 days now. Sheesh. What's next? You never see a dime until you die and your children get paid on a perpetual 100 year bond? God help us all.
