Thanks Everett,
You sound like the "laid back, work with the system" trucker I hope I'll be. I'd hate to spend my off time worrying too much (I know some worry comes with the territory) about my next load, etc. I will have the luxury of not having to sweat (too much) about how much my next check will be. If I had started in trucking earlier in my life when I had kids at home and a mortgage to pay, etc., I wouldn't have this attitude. I would have been in there scrappin' with everybody else.
Be safe and stay cool!\

Great idea. Rental car rates are affordable if a person is willing to go with the economy cars.

I'd take accredited online college courses. Might as well get a degree if you aren't doing anything else.
JustSonny Thanks this. -
Depends totally on how much time you got, how much money you got, where you are laid over and what the weather is doing. And if you have a refer load too. Sometimes getting on the CB and broadcasting that you are going to Disneyland and renting a car will bring responses that will split the rental car fee. (or cab fee). Sometimes you can drop the trailer and bobtail to wherever. I've been in Juarez,Mx. visiting the Senioritas while my truck was parked at the Petro. (Can you say wild time?) I once went to the Grand ol'Opry, they have truck parking.

Hey Allow Me,
I'm thinking I could have a blast just following you around with a camera. Throw NW Country into the mix and the sky's the limit. Thanks for your response!

I spent my down time at home on the weekends. during the week, it was "###holes and elbows." there WAS no down time.
JustSonny Thanks this. -
During the weekend, I'm almost always home. During the week, what little downtime I have is spent sleeping, going for walks, exercising a bit, or messing around on my laptop.
The laptop is a godsend sometimes. I can watch movies, surf the net, chat with friend's and family, and get other things done.JustSonny Thanks this. -
Hey NoPhix,
A laptop will come before most of the other comforts I will have when I get going. I hate talking on the phone but I like cyber chat.
Thanks for your time,

That's why I love doing NYC! There are plenty of places that I know of to park and they have the best subway and bus system going! I just hit the computer and find out whats going on and pull out my MTA card and go! I also have a dozen or so places where I like to go eat where I can eat cheaper than at most truck stops these days and with better food well except for the truck stop at the 115 on 70 in Indy!
I do the same in any of the bigger cities with a decent bus/transportation system or I'll go for a walk and see what there is! I spent many years sitting around the truck stops listening to the same freaking stories only told by different people and the lounges are getting to where they smell like a gym!
One of the fun things to do while in NYC is to just take the subway, any line and be entertained all day long for only $2.00! There is so much to watch and pantsless Friday was fantastic! OOOlala! Baby dolls galore!
Now when I'm in Atlanta there is a bus line passing every truck stop there and I just hit it to the tram line and go north as far as it goes to my sisters house! Ain't public transportation great!JustSonny Thanks this. -
Good morning RTO,
"Love doing NYC" - I haven't seen many posts or replies where drivers actually wanted to go to the Big Apple much less enjoyed being there. It's all about attitude, right? Life is what you make it - lemons or lemonade! Thanks for the reply and stay safe.
