    Morning Dave,
Thanks for the updated info. I've got yet one more reason for getting into trucking, that is, if I can sign on with a company that will run me west coast. I'd really like to see the old girl before she's scrapped. Hell, if I do see her I'll probably shed a tear or two. You probably know this already but her original designation, DLGN, stood for Destroyer, Light, Guided, Nuclear. Her original CO was Captain F. H. "Hoss" Miller. He was one helluva CO and was highly respected by all members of the crew. He earned it!

    Good morning again Dave,
I just read a reply that I had missed from Dec224. He said the USS California was completely scrapped in 2000. Oh well, I'll still have my memories!

    Hey Beerfart,
Your downtime activities, while not exciting, probably mirror what I'll find myself doing. I believe exploring comes only after other things are in order. As a newbie, the last thing I'll want to worry about is a disorganized cab/sleeper. It's kinda like changing the oil in and tuning up my personal vehicle. It always runs better and I'm just a little prouder of it!

What is amazing to me is before the age of the Atomic bomb, a battleship was the most feared weapon in the world! Even more amazing was that it took a small city of men to make it such a feared weapon!

Either type is OK - You can ride a plain ol' street bike on a dirt path, and you can ride a mountain or hybrid on any road - A bike is a bike - go ride!

become a Hertz Gold Club member, you'll get great rates on rental cars in location including special rates on premium cars for the day. Since I'm a local/regional driver I'm home most every night, but I have taken time when I've been on long runs waiting for a reload to hit a casino or a movie.

Striker, I can see myself doing just that. Renting a car would give me the freedom to go where I want to go in an area not just where public trans can get me. I like to see the sights that draw people to visit an area but I also want to get "outta Dodge" and see how the folks along the highways and byways live.
    Thanks for the reply,

Hubby and I do tons of stuff out on the road. Sometimes I pinch myself that we are lucky enough to have a job to see and do what we have with a few hours out of the truck.

Huntington Beach in CA is a place we bobtail to from our terminal nearby in LA. There is tons of bobtail parking (offseason) right on the beach and near dog beach where are silly dog will play for hours. Great restaurants too! Dukes on the beach has some of the best Maui Maui I have ever had.

Disneyland is fun day outing and they have a dog kennel ($20 per day) and truck parking. Bobtail is $20 and tractor trailer is $25.

Flagstaff is our favorite for a reset or long weekend. There is a driving range and golf course at X205 (?) on the other side of Purina Factory with bobtail parking. Or there is a car rental place (Alamo ?) in the Hilton at the Little America Exit. Grand Canyon is a couple hours away, tons of amazing Hikes (our fav is Red Mountain on the way to GC) plus there are lots of other awesome state parks near by.

I cook a lot on the truck and having a picnic is something we try to do a lot of.

I've been all over the eastern part of the US. Everywhere east of the Mississippi River. I've never been out west. I've always wanted to go but things never fell into place. Your reply makes me want to do it for sure. Keep having fun and be safe!
