So I have been reading and watching videos for 2 weeks and have narrowed my "best choices" down to these 2. I head off to start Roadmaster in Columbus, Ohio next week. I have a couple of questions though if someone could enlighten me. Both these companies seem to pay about the same, TMC does have the percent of load option which I like. I am not afraid of working hard and paying my dues anywhere. I think I will be fine with the physical tests but am setting up a lil mini skateboard in the garage with a heavy bag to simulate a tarp just to make sure. I am looking for OTR as I have a strong wife that can handle me being gone for a couple weeks at a time and part of the reason I want to truck is to travel around a bit.
My questions are these: 1) Do the new Pete 579 come with an APU? If I have heard right the older ones do not have APU's.. 2) Manual or Auto? 3) What does specialized haul? Ive seen something about boats.. is there anything else.. 4) Where is TMC's main routes at? 5) How much will haveing my hazmat, TWIC, and passport help me starting out?
I will probable have more later but these are whats been on my mind the last few days. As I said money seems about the same, seems TMC has better training, def like the Pete over the Freightliner except the APU issue, seems you would use a lot of idle time when your doing restart hours or sitting to have power without one.

I'm in the same boat u are.I am currently in trucking school and I believe I am going with TMC. Everything I have heard is good.I have researched them for awhile.Only thing I don't like about maverick is that I live in georgia so they want me to be in long haul and they have automatic trucks.I believe just starting out of school should learn manual first.Just my opinion.
