Downgrades without jake/engine brakes

    OP , always remember you can go down 10000 mountains to slow,you will go down only 1 mountain to fast.

    Lots of drivers go down lots of grades "too fast", they've just been lucky so far not having to stop unexpectedly during a steep part of the grade. Just a matter of time.

    Example.... Ok say your grossing bout 150000 lbs what type of braking would you do on a 7% grade 4 miles long??? Snubbing? Stabbing? Light pedal, heavy pedal??

    I'll play. Engine brake. Probably in 2nd gear. Going to take a while getting down.

    We do Cabbage at 90,000 every week. Even with jakes, 6th and 35 is plenty fast and requires some supplemental braking. 150K would make me pucker.

    Therein lies the problem of going down a hill old-school style with no Jake brake... idiots that think it's ok to go down the hill at 65 mph because their Jake brake will hold them back. Never mind what they'll have to do when they come up on a slow truck going 25 mph and have to bring it down 40 mph in a heartbeat. Not gonna happen.
