Don't try floating gears at the road test. Stick to double clutching until you learn to float gears. Pay more attention to your backing and controlling the truck on the road.

They just want to see you have control of it and you can be safe on the road.

    You'll be alright G-Unit

Just accept a certain amount of showtime nervous. Then move forward with the task at hand.

Singy songy Kissmekate in one big word should have you completing the shift before you finish the one big combined three words into one. The best thing? You establish your own pace of downshifting, just give her a bump or a kick as you come out of the gear headed for the next one down.

If you scratch, immediately attempt to capture the next one even lower right quick. Give her a little kick A grand on the tach will get you one of those two gears. But don't let her slow too much or speed up too much, it overly complicates your gear capturing problem. Remember if you totally scotch it, pull over, apologize to everyone and explain that you intend to start over and merge safely with traffic. Follow the instructions they give you if any.

Don't forget to remain in whatever gear you are making a left or right hand turn in. Stay in that gear until you are finished with turn, then concentrate on walking off with the rig up through the gears.

You don't HAVE to learn to float. It's totally up to you. If you're more comfortable DC'ing by all means do that.

Whatever works for YOU! Soon it will all be second nature to you. It's true, it's really not something to stress over. It'll come together for you.

I don't even know what to say about that. I mean, it really couldn't be any simpler.

But you prolly feel the same way about double clutching. I don't. Lol

Bottom line, do whatever works for YOU!

I member when I went to my first road test fresh outta school. The TM sent me with a compa (Mexican) I was nervous but then I thought ima try to be friendly with my Latino buddy here...

It was all good. I never backed up to a dock with a pup (different than doing it with a 53') I got the first two tries right. The last one I got nervous and failed the first attempt. The guy decided it was enough to fail me.

He told the TM I wasn't good enough. The TM told him it was alright.

I couldn't believe the Mexican guy didn't want me to feed my family just because I failed once at backing.

Hey if you're new, you're new. I was good with everything else except backing. Being nervous is normal. Don't worry too much

Well....drive it like you stole it. Seriously DC shifting is just a matter of timing. I've. been a DC most of my 35 yrs of driving. But I didn't drive Highway that much. Floating is for the highway and that's all I'll say about that.
Weather you float or DC it's the same. Watch your tach and you will see a sweet spot in RPMs and shifting. 250 or so for the Upshift and 500 for the downshift. This maybe dispute by some drivers but that's how I got my jobs. Smooth and easy. Good luck you'll be fine.

Im not going to dispute anything.

A engine will give you a specific tach speed for max torque and a few hundred rpm's later you reach max Horse. Anything over that reduces your total power availible to the drive tires after subtracting the alternator, compressor, Air conditoning, Engine fan, water pump and fuel pump and so on. Then there is a parasite drag imposed by the very presence and bulk of the Transmission, drive shaft, final drive componets and axles inside the bearings, housing etc. Some trucks such as Macks, the older ones had walking beam technology to help you do battle off road terrain on the rough farmland with boulders etc. And there is so many technology innovations to count them all here.

Somewhere between Torque RPM and Max Horse RPM there is a speed that is a sweet spot evah for the engine. You will know it when you hit it, that engine will make music and sing for you. Sort of a woman who is enjoying playtime with you. (It's crude.. but teamwork using the information using the Tach done right works wonders for your ability to use the Rig however it's set up to shift it just so and roll easy making a bunch of money without bone headed stubborn abuse that does damage and only makes you even more stressed and angry with a heart filled with stones and boots overflowing with them You will never be able to rest or reach contentment with the equiptment you are assigned because you are overflowing yourself with the 78 major emotions taking away your safety margin and ability to keep everyone safe around yourself.

Beautiful music from a engine run right is something for the memories. Makes all the stress go away right quick then and there.
