While I don't disagree with anything you said, I'll respond for the sake of a response, as there seems to have been some confusion here.
The speed I mentioned was the road speed I would have to travel at to allow me to roll to a stop at each intersection. The signs I mentioned were to the person who originally said that I couldn't tell when a light was going to change, which I said was not entirely true, and I left it at that so as to not hijack the thread. As far as the latter, you basically stated exactly what I meant, which is that dealing with around town driving many times does not give me (or anyone else, since you seemed to want to point it out) the luxury of rolling around without my brakes. I guess my situation is somewhat different as I deal with around town driving daily moreso than many, and I don't mean rolling around on US-60, the 101, or the I-17 in AZ when there is traffic. Do I try to use my brakes as little as possible? You bet. Does it actually work out that way? Usually not (I would say 80% of the time I still have to use them).
I don't really disagree with anything you guys said (as you can see, when taken out of context, I'm sure you can tailor a response to anything and have an argument). I took the post Rockee made to be too much of a generalization and honestly, only lightheartedly pointed out that I wasn't able to do that all the time. Otherhalftw seemed to have taken the whole post out of context and ran off on a tangent there, but that's ok, after all it is a discussion forum. This shifting is all new to me as I came from an automatic company. I can upshift ok it's just when trying to slow down. What are the speeds you should be going to go from 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Downshifting isn't really necessary, the exception being pulling a hill or slowing to make a turn, knowing that you are going to pick up speed. But for approaching a stop sign/red light, you don't need to downshift. You're just doing too much work, needlessly.

forget the speedo there are 400 rpm between full gears and 200 between splits watch your tach, and never miss a gear, don't believe me try it
