DPF delete, will it affect who you can haul for?

Sorry, I'll start with saying I'm not a trucker but I am a VW diesel car enthusiast so I know a bit about emission related scandals.

I just got off the phone with my brother in law who is currently hauling in the oil fields and he told me he had his DPF deleted awhile back. He then said he plans to head back to the midwest soon and flatbed loads. He plans to sign up with a company such as Landstar that lets him log in online and accept loads. I know one guy who worked for/with Landstar and they inspected his truck every so often and would make him repair any components that didn't pass their inspection.

With all that said, will he be able to get loads in the midwest with no DPF. When I questioned him he said, "Yeah, they told me not to go to Cali or the NE with it", but I'm a rebel blah blah blah.

My biggest concern as that he quits working down there and then buys a flatbed and plans to come home and all the big companies tell him his truck aint up to snuff and that he can't haul loads for them.

Is my concern valid or does the midwest still turn a blind eye to emission modifications?

 

Most the state's couldn't give a rat's behind, at least they aren't out looking for that to give tickets for, but that doesn't mean somebody like landstar will want anything to do with him. He can always get his own authority and run off loadboards and right now at least do pretty good.

If I were doing that I'd find a valve cover sticker off whatever color motor he's got from pre emission years.

 

If he's going flatbed, tell him to look at Admiral Merchants Motor Express and compare to Landstar and decide which is a better fit for him.

Trust me I totally called him a DA when he told me, then I asked if he at least kept the stuff and he when he told me he threw it away I dumbfounded. What an idiot.

 

There's thousands of trucks running the roads with the delete.

 

I can imagine there are tons of deleted trucks. My real concern was how many of the "loadboards" that independants use do physical truck inspections. I was pretty sure my buddy that drove for Landstar said he had is truck inspected and I could only 'assume' that if the truck was deleted they may not pass it. I'll be honest though, I don't even know how many loadboards there are or how they are used, hence my questions. My brother in law doesn't always think things through and I didn't want him to show up with a shiny new flatbed and not be able to get loads because he flipped off the feds.

 

I don' no the answer to your question. I' assuming as long as it passes a "landstar" dot Inspection. He is good, and I've never seen anyone plug into a truck to do a dot insp. But the REAL question is. Will a delete effect who will work on it. Maybe where he is now that' not a problem. But I have a friend who did the delete, bragged about better fuel mileage, power, etc. But when he tbroke down, and towed truck to petebilt. They told him how it somewhere else. They won' even LOOK at a truck with a delete. Cause that makes them liable in a crime.
