I could see that confusing the living hell out of a ECM, Not to mention you would have to some how fit a Dozer and a DOC along with a DPF fliter on the truck. it would not be easy in any sense of the word to just turn on and off, also putting something like that on a truck that was not built to take the back pressure could also cause more problems then its worth.
Vio Thanks this. -
He may be talking about a Passive Catalyst, no DEF, no Dozer valve, no additive tank/plumbing, I have looked into them, I was quoted around 20,000 AND you had to do a "soot study" to see if you could pass.
In the end I gave up on the idea, have to clean/replace filter every 35-50,000 miles, cause motor to run hot, could create other issues.
As far as ONLY using it in Cali, I "guess" a guy could put a splitter type exhaust on it to bypass it when not in Cali. ???? -
Something like that.Do you have a phone number from them?
-
I do not remember their name, this was on a Cummins ISM and Cummins gave me a list of approved shops. But this shop also did Cats and Detroit's. I think they were in the Riverside area.
Just google DPF retrofit, a bunch of places will come up.Vio Thanks this. -
Whatever you put on HAS to be an approved unit by CARB and the installation has to be done by an approved CARB shop. From what I have read most of the companies that put out units are no longer in business. If you get inspected at a CARB inspection point with some sort of bypass arrangement, the truck will have to be disabled and towed to the state line after a significant fine.
If you have to run California, and it appears you are in Arizona, pony up for a late model 2012 or later and charge accordingly. It sucks to get rid of a perfectly serviceable truck, but there are thousands of them that have been wholesaled out of California in the last few years because of these regulations. -
They should have came up with diesel water fuel system for cali trucks not dpf.
-
i would just stay out of Cali. you knew that was coming.
bloodklok and russtrucker Thank this. -
some lady was on the KR show last month. she spent about $5G. and claimed to be getting .5 better fuel mileage.
KR was wanting her information to look into it and maybe start recommending on his show. haven't heard anything on the subject since, but i don't listen to him much.
landline is about the only program i listen to anymore, and even that is a lot of repeat stories lately. -
those filters are certified by carb before they go on sale so no need to test after installation. I know for reefers they cost around 6gs with installation. I know schnider and swift run fewcabover argosy and int9800 in cali with those dpf filters.
