Dramatic Rollover Video

The light was yellow when the video began.

Just before the 1 second mark the truck appears in the picture.

At 2 seconds the pick up appears as they begin their turn.
I believe the P U was already in the intersection waiting for traffic to clear.

At 3 seconds the collision occurs on the far side of the intersection and the light turns red at exactly the same time.

I say the P U driver wasn't paying attention or couldn't see the semi until it was too late because of traffic in the oncoming turn lane.

The truck had at least 3 seconds to act, if not more, and I don't recall seeing many 3 second amber lights in my travels.

The trucker is guilty for sure.

 

I should have said that even a novice driver would be aware of the “problem”.

 

you had better look at that video again and pause it...the light WAS YELLOW, long beofre the big rig got there...did he think it was going to stay yellow forever.???

 

Guess maybe the laws are different in Canada. It went red at the same time as the impact in the middle if the intersection. Around here, that means he ran the light. I know. I know. But everybody does it. That doesn't make it legal though.

 

Here in the states, it is not considered running the light if it's yellow when you cross the stop line. Having said that, with the proliferation of red light cameras here, I tend to drive verrrry slowly coming up to a light and will stop regardless of color if it's been green too long. I'll then wait for the light to cycle and go on a fresh green.

The exception to this rule is Mississippi and other states which have a pre-warning "prepare to stop" light that flashes when the light is going to turn red. As long as you make it past the pre-warning sign before it goes off and you're doing the speed limit, you'll make the light. These should be mandatory for all lights located on 45mph and above speed limit roads.

 

The light was still yellow when the pickup truck made contact with the big truck. I stand by my statement, it was 100% the fault of the pickup.

 

but the big truck was not slowing down...he's as responsible for the accident, if not MORE SO..i stick to my statement as well...

how many times have we been taught, to NEVER assume the yellow light will stay yellow forever.>???

 

Do you have any evidence (a link perhaps) backing this statement up? There are a whole bunch of folks getting red light tickets every day that would like to have that information when they go to court.

 

This is a split second after your image.
The light is neither amber or red, it's just changing, and in relation to the intersecting street, the truck's front wheels are just past the sidewalk on the opposite side of the intersection, you can see the crosswalk lines beside and under the truck.
The pick up is turning into the far lane onto the intersecting street, not the median lane.
Just for giggles I timed a light that I can see from my window.
The speed limit at the intersection is 60 km/h from all 4 directions, the amber light is 5 seconds and I don't think BC is much different when it comes to light timing.
Probably, the faster the speed limit the longer the light.

The trucker had plenty of time to react but did nothing, he was trying to blow through the intersection and assumed everyone would stay out of his way.
I've seen this a million times and did it a few times myself when I was a kid, learned it was a real stupid move and I never played "beat the light" again, luckily I never had a crash.
He's guilty, a cowboy with a CDL, a superstar in a large car, period.
The only forgiveness or sympathy I can muster is if the trucker blacked out or was having a heart attack.

Likely a local truck, but looks a lot like an EBD truck from MB.
I know the owners, and if they saw this video this driver is probably jobless right now.
