could you imagine falling asleep while driving and then crashing. This 4 wheeler did that and hit a truck head on a month ago on 78. He prob died before he even woke up.
I bet he was having a dream, and then just died, and never realized what happened.

Wow! That's pretty horrific. If that were to happen(and i will do everything possible for it not to happen) then i would not want to have a dream----i would want to black out and that would be it.

    Wow, how depresssing.

When I was 18 I was going thru MEPS at Ft. Jackson. I worked the closing shift at a local restaurant and didn't get out till 3am. I had gone to school that day, went straight to work then left and headed to the fort. I was going down I-77 and they were still doing construction, had those big round orange barrels everywhere. I woke up to the thump, thump, thump, sound of my buick picking off those barrels. I was on the bridge over the Broad river going perfectly straight in the breakdown lane. It's a wonder I didn't kill myself or somebody else.

We called it "dronning" when I was in the Army. Asleep, but still standing.

Yeah, I think I had that one a couple times. I catalogued it as SD-14.

    As in
Girlfriend:" Hey honey how's your day today?"
Me: "It's alright just had trouble getting going this morning. Had a little bout with SD-14 again last night......"

About the only time I have any weird dreams or get freaked out is when I've been running too hard for too long. I had a weird thing happen once where I had pulled into a rest area to get a few hours sleep, and upon falling asleep, I had dreamed that I had continued my delivery in such a realistic way that when I woke up, it took me a few minutes of walking around the truck to convince myself that it was only a dream and it never happened. Used to get mind-F'ed alot when I first started pulling a smooth bore tanker. I'd be stopped at a red light, when a vehicle beside me would start to roll forward while the light was still red, and I would shove the brake pedal through the grill thinking the surge was pulling me backward and it would only quit when I'd realize I wasn't moving in the first place but rather, he was. That's a feeling that will wake your ### up quick.

I did this many years ago...I figure others probably have too.

Had been running hard for several days and I was tired, with a capitol "T".

I got up and started towards the sleeper....while I was still going down the road at 70 mph. I caught myself though, parked on the next ramp and went to bed.

That could have ended badly...don't drive tired.

i have stopped at a rest area to sleep, and when i wake up i'm not sure where i am.
Like when i wake up, I'm thinking that i kept driving further than i did.
I look at the gps, and I'm like, "oh, I'm still in CT, I thought I was gonna drive up to MA before I stopped"

I get them all the time. There's that one, and the dream about worst case scenarios related to winter driving. As soon as I wake up for real from one of these, I put in for home time.

A psych friend of mine says it's caused by the repetitive activity I spend most of my waking time doing (driving all the time) combined with my tendency to always think "what if" while driving, an attempt to stay one step ahead of the stupidity factor on the road.

It NEVER happens when I'm on home time. Interestingly, it also hasn't happened once during the 4 months I've spent at home recuperating from work-related injuries (I don't even dream about driving, period).

A trick I use if the dreams become a problem is to leave the TV or radio on, usually some science thing or another that won't intrude on my sleep.

I do the same "what if" thinking all the time as well, especially when I'm driving nights. During the day it's more about what currently could happen but at night I just start thinking about all these weird and random situations and for hours on end. Sometimes I think to myself, "Did I really just think about that for 4 hours?" lol
