I ALWAYS wear a button up shirt as my father always taught me "you only get 1 chance to make a first good impression" so do dress accordingly for ANY interview you go on even if it's at a burger place. Jeans are ok in this industry alond with good work shoes that can pass OSHA guidelines and can save your feet for the just in case accident that can happen.
If you have been following the want ads you will notice a lot of them are now saying "good appearance" and I've found out over the years a good appearance can and is helpful with your customers!
The way a lot of drivers dress these days is embarrassing! Jogging clothing, shorts, sandels, flip-flops, pants hanging to their knees T-shirts that look like it has every meal they've eaten in the past 2 days down the front of it or with some stupid obnoxious picture or saying screen printed on it and on and on!
Me, I just like to look good for my customers and "free" on my own time as when riding my bike or working in the yard which is when the T-shirt is a shirt and not an undergarmet! But then again I do have some work shirts for doing the yard work! Go figure!truckernewbee Thanks this. -
One of the best employees I ever hired worked for one of our vendors and wanted to come on board with us.
He filled out an app and kept hitting me up every time he was on site. So after about two months..... I asked him when he could come in for an interview. Next day he came in on his lunch break, I brought him into my office, he took off his company uniform shirt, which I thought was a little odd until I saw he was wearing one of our company t-shirts underneath. He just sat there and smiled waiting for the questions.
Just had one question - "when can you start?"
.......... Jimtruckernewbee Thanks this. -
I was thinking a polo shirt what else could be good?...rollover..when u say button down what kind are we talking here shoe give me a name brand as well..lol.....i just don`t want to make a bad impression...a million thanks to all...Jimbo...i wish i could get a chance like the one you gave that guy...

Polo shirts can be ok, and in good shoes I wear leather topped with the oil resistant soles.I havent owned a pair of tennis shoes since my Army days. Yes you have to polish them but I've been polishing shoes since I was a child and it's not a big deal to me as I also have my biking leathers to polish also! LOL! Then there is Maria at the Petro in Effingham that does a great job of polishing them! (if you see the white Sporster in front shes working!)
Now remember some shippers and receivers and even companies will want you to wear steel toed shoes because of the type of freight you haul which requires you to be in a hazardous work area so be prepared for that expense BUT keep the receipt and claim any work related clothing REQUIRED by the company on your taxes!
I might be a trucker and a biker but looking good has always been a "thing" with me when it comes to my work. It's always helped me and has also gotten me letters and calls from customers about my attire and attitude with them. Just remember what my father always told me...you only get one chance at a first impression!truckernewbee Thanks this. -
Ok i see i`m in good hands here....time to get ready and moving...hopefully i`m rolling before my unemployment is done on june...
Another million tanks to all...
