We don't allow drinking on company property. Period. If the mechanics want to drink they can do it on their own time, not ours.
And before anybody asks, that seems to be fine with the guys in the shop. The lead mechanic has been there over thirty years and the last "new guy" we hired was seven years ago.
We insist on sober drivers. The same goes for the guys in the shop.born&raisedintheusa, skyviper73, Lonesome and 1 other person Thank this. -
Erin... you know what your gut is saying to you. .. I can definitely see and understand your concerns....
Chances are this in not the only concern you have about this company.... I too worked for a small company, and had concerns with things.. I left...
There are many other good small companies out there... find one that feels right for you and operates with a level of integrity and professionalism that you want... -
You need to find another company. If these losers can't even go 8 hours without a drink then they probably have a myriad of issues going on.

Not to condone anything, but have you actually seen them drinking on the job? A pile of beer cans in the corner is not a be all end all that says they are drinking on the job. The pile could be from after hours hanging out and socializing.
In the end, you have to follow your gut. If YOU feel anything is unsafe, contact OSHA and file a complaint. A mechanics shop is considered an industrial environment and should be governed by OSHA. You can not be fired or disciplined as a whistle blower. Now whether two weeks down the road, they fire you because your a fashion faux pas is another story. -
no job is important enough to condone this stupid behavior, take pictures (videos), call the cops and let them sit outside the gates of the place to pull them over and arrest them. -
I would carefully examine the repairs, as well as doing through vehicle inspections.

True but there may be something you did'nt see while pretripping.I'd be nervous having some guy that's been drinking work on my trk or trailer.Mechanic could forget to tighten things up leave a tool under the hood somewhere, anything could happen if they're not 100%focused on their work.
