You could always buy some really small wipers so it would be outside the sweep area.

Texas did that to me too. Yet NONE of the locals have anything to keep their mudflaps from flapping in the wind.

Must be some state law that provides an exemption for locals.

I can see where they're coming from. Flapping mudflaps aren't doing the job they were intended to do. But ALL trucks should be held by the standard. NOT just out of staters.

It's strange that there is no uniform mudflap law. Some states say it has to be within 8 inches of the ground, some say it has to be long enough to prevent an object from leaving at a 22.5 degree angle of trajectory. Who made that decision, Bill Nye the science guy? Is there a class that certifies law enforcement on the 22.5 degree threshold? Do they carry around a huge exhaust fan to test the mudflap rigidity?

Your honor, based on my training I could tell the mudflap was at 23 degrees deflection, so I cited the driver.

    23? Are you sure?

I agree. The only thing in my dash is my next stop's bills so I can have them ready to grab if DOT asks for my BOL.

A good lawyer could probably get this thrown out in court since the Feds have eased up on the rules to allow safety related items to be on the windshield.
