It should be noted that Swift policy is any time you move the truck, you must have your seat belt on.

That said, I do not work for them anymore, I used to be a manager at one of the on site facilities in Houston. Managers do know when you apply for another job, there is a national report that goes to every company every month. I used to get a list of every Houston driver that applied for another job every 30 days.

As for the cameras, I am glad I am gone for this. I do not know anything about them. I do know that there is a lot of speculation as to how they will be used to spy, I assure you no one behind a desk has enough time to spy on drivers. When I was in Memphis I was on the Accident Review Board, you know, when you say your accident was not preventable and it gets reviewed? In cab cameras would have been wonderful for every incident. With the cab data that is obtained, it could make a difference. Like, if you are on your phone. As I recall, Swift does not allow you to be on your phone, even with a headset.

Anyway, this is the future of the industry, and there will be more technology that watches the way you drive. They have it on planes, they have it on trains, and it will be on trucks. The motoring public as a whole is terrified of the big bad 18 wheelers, and honestly, some of what I have seen out there, I dont blame them.

The company I am with now will be slow in adopting these new technologies, 95% owner op, but I am sure we will eventually. You can complain about it, you can quit and go to work for someone else, but eventually, it will catch up to you. And it may save your job one day.

The difference between trains busses and planes is you do not live in them.

The truck parked next to me last night had a camera. Not Swift.
I didn't realize until I saw the sock covering it a bit later.
We left at the same time this morning and I could see the camera lens.

BigShrek is probably right. They will probably be mandated soon enough, and job hopping to get away from them may only be a short term stopgap.

They can NEVER require a privet citizen to put a cam in their house. You forget how many people own their trucks and operate under their own authority. It might become common in big companies but like elogs they will never become required as long as it's something you are forced to pay for

    Dream on, young Padawan.

Never say never, especially when the govmint is in charge.

Health insurance USED to be a choice; now it is required through ObamaCare- even though we (private citizens?) are forced to pay for it.

And operate under their 'own authority'?
There really is no such thing.
No one is above or outside of the powers that be, except the Powers that be - God and Satan.
Certainly none of us little people.

I sometimes wonder at the ant that is raging against the foot that is just about to squish it.
Does it see itself as the force of will that can prevent its own messy splat?

Yet paper logs are still allowed... you really think government mandated video inside a person's business will happen before paper logs are gone??? You also have the choice not to have insurance you just are taxed for not having it

Companies that want to hire married couples to run as teams are definitely going to get a lot of pushback on this one.

I would never allow my employer to record every interaction in our marriage. They wouldn't similarly provide their family's intimate details and discussions to a safety department at their work, even though some of the logic could apply.

There IS a reasonable expectation of privacy, and places like phone booths, changing rooms and your bedroom are exempt from recording devices. I would never sign that basic right away and I would walk from any job that expected me to. Luckily, to mandate something like this nationally in Canads would require a fair amount of undoing of Supreme Court rulings and amendments to our human rights legislations that would never fly.

Going east on I-40 just into Texas, we saw a Central truck overturned, blocking all lanes so we had to use the service road to get around it. The wind gets pretty wicked there, is it possible that a fierce gust caused his truck to lose control? That driver-facing camera could clear him...but I think it'll probably show him falling asleep at the wheel.

Atleast without the camera he would get the benefit of the doubt. Even with the camera even if he was not falling asleep at the wheel I am sure they would find something to scrutinize in the video.

Exactly.... the driver facing cam only serves the purpose to harm the driver
