Pretty Sound Advice everyone can use. I wonder how many drivers actually have a "Driving Philosophy" or do they just play it by ear.??

In response to the "yes, they do have a choice..." a few posts ago... eh... when you are desperate for a job after being unemployed for 2 1/2 years and you DO NOT have a criminal background, you have kids and a wife to feed and CR England is the only company that dangles anything in front of your nose.... doesn't sound like a choice to me, sounds like a wrangled alligator trying to find a butt to sink it's teeth into. My husband took the job with high hopes, yes... he's a newb... yes, he's being pulled in by their speels... their schemes and their spawns... no, he didn't see any other companies that had a "Help Wanted" sign on their door... although... I do say, I wish he had found these boards before he started... or that he had given me time to find them and read up on what drivers think of the company, instead of him following some industry bs report... *shakes head* I don't know how to get through to ya'll but.. honestly, sometimes going into a crappy company works worlds better than watching your family go out into the street because unemployment just doesn't have any more extensions. Just sayin... from a sidewinder's perspective... some of them honestly don't have a choice, even if it looks to you like they should. They want to drive, they dont have time to fish around for the company with the best social rep, and they grab for the first hook that comes their way so that maybe, just maybe the courts and feds will get off their backs about not having a JOB.
Although, a bit of info that we found out the hard way... for anyone looking to go into CR England's training... much adverse to the advice of these gentlemen and women here... they apparently don't take people that are on probation. They don't give a hoot what it's for, they wont take you. So, if you are on probation and looking at a job with that particular company... you might want to talk to the judge on your case and get a conditional release from probation statement BEFORE going out to the school. Otherwise, you'll sit there for a week, wondering IF you get to finish training or if you have to go home and disappoint the family, and still be behind on everything if you get the go ahead from HR....

People always say they don't have a choice . Yes they do . What do they do when they wash out with a carrier and can't get another driving job or decide they don't want to be a trucker after all ? Then they have to make another choice and it's the choice they should have made in the first place instead of choosing to be victimized by a bottom feeder .
As others have posted there are many members here giving warnings , many members telling horror stories , many new CDL holders that can't even get hired . The only ones I have any sympathy for are the ones that didn't find this forum until after they made the wrong choices .

There should be stricter requirements for schools to accept and pass students . Many think I'm against newbies . I'm not . I'm against schools accepting students they know very well are likely to be rejected by carriers . Did you ever hear of a school failing to graduate any student ? They take their money and the applications from misfits get put in with those that do have potential maybe having a good student sit home while a misfit goes and gets rejected . Carriers already have thousands of more applications than they ever have openings for and the stack of applications continues to get higher .
All CDL mills should at least be required to have simulators . The testing should be able to be recorded and any student that can't pass on a simulator should not be allowed to graduate .
Too many graduates are rejected by trainers for not having minimal driving skills .

    JustSonny Thanks this.

Most of the bottom feeders are still hiring, but when the times are tough you can expect them to make sure you pay their pockets before yours.

As some one else noted, better to wait till times get better.
