When you grease the U joints, make sure the grease is getting through to all 4 caps. Before Christmas, I was doing a service before a trip. I always jack one rear wheel up with the brakes off so I can turn the driveshafts by hand. Lo and behold there's movement in the front inter-axle shaft U joint.
There was no grease at all in one cap and the half the needle rollers were missing. The cross was worn down to a taper. The other 3 caps had plenty of grease in them.
If I hadn't caught it, it probably would have let go. Spicer 1810 U joint, not Chinese crap.Ruthless, Dye Guardian, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this. -
It will look something like this I'm sure.

When I grease my u-joints, I pump grease into them till they start popping out the old grease and continue pumping till I feel the new grease has pushed out the old. I do this on both grease zerks and make sure you clean each fitting before you attach grease gun, you don't want to introduce dirt and road grime into the cavity.
I wear disposable coveralls when I am under the truck and by the time I am done I'm covered in grease but I know I got everything lubricated well.mitmaks Thanks this. -
My 05 Volvo has greaseless u joints.. I know that's a little so where I could take out and screw in a zerk. Think it's a good idea or not?
-
You cant put a zerk in those ones.

Yeah that's what I figured itwould obviously push the seals out when greased.
