Hi Everyone, Just to give you a little of my background. I worked at the former GM Saturn Plant in Spring Hill, TN from 1989 until I was laid off in July of 2006. The last 9 years there I worked in an office environment. I'm from a small town and the only work I found was driving a school bus for our school system and working another part time job at the school along with the bus driving job. If any of you have driven a school bus you know you can't make much of a living that way.
My wife is a Medical Transcriptionist and works from home. We have two children still in school and she has worked a lot of hours keeping things afloat. Don't get me wrong, the Lord has really blessed my family and always been faithful to provide all of our needs. I have struggled with what to do for a while and a while back we decided together that I would go to a driving school to get my CDL-A license and pursue a truck driving career. This past friday I finished my school and already have talked to several recruiters from several companies. I have researched the best I could and decided to go with one. I appreciate any and all advice you folks can give me. That includes on how to cope with being away from family for long periods of time. Thanks to all.

Hey, Drive Shaft, good to hear back from you. How about starting a thread in the Ask and Experienced Truck Driver section about coping with the family thing. And when it comes down to making your decision on a company, its not a bad idea to look at the DAC section on each company. This will help you make your decision.

Stick around, we are glad you are here. Hope that we can help you in your journey.
