It takes about 3 days to 1 week to get past the written exams and have CLP in hand. Then 1 week on backing maneuvers, and 1 week driving around town with a few other students.

All of that should be included. If they dont give you seat time, a call to a lawyer might be worthwhile.

Employees ripped you off, then a CDL school after that. Thats a rough time. You might want to give some thought about how/why that is happening and make some changes. Because people will always be more than happy to take your money.

I already asked if I could rent to practice and answer was NO. Only available for the Pre-Inspection, test maneuvers and road test.

LAws have changed somewhat towards rental. It must be a working rental, not practice.

I understand your situation a little better. My ex is a Former Marine and when it came time to get her through school the VA made availible a certain amount (Not too much) and made it possible to go to trucking school.

You are wise not to sign contracts.

States should have what is a rehabilitation program since you are a vet you should have people falling over you hand and foot to wait on you and get you working asap.

If it's a short truck ride you seek in a formal 18 wheeler talk to a trucking company that has them in your area. If you understand that they may have a moment to introduce a vet (Thats you...) to a short ride in a nice truck (And probably empty trailer which is ok...) it will give you a taste for whats coming up. It might even open doors who knows.

The waiver covers tuition, correct? No? What exactly did the waiver cover? Who wanted you to sign that contract...the school? With what trucking company? How much is tuition?

I'm familiar with all the steps to CDL and have all covered except drive and test. The military waiver covered school and motel costs of $7k and yes, the school wanted me to sign the agreement committing to 1 year. I would but who knows? Fall and break a hip, etc = no commitment fulfilled.

Was hoping for a ride, but will have to go it alone. I've driven cars and trucks 50 years, 40 ft boats, pulled a 30 ft boat on trailer with van 2500 miles, been airline pilot. I can drive an 18 wheeler. Thanks all for comments.

The $7k the waiver paid was for you to get your CDL, correct? If you don’t have your CDL, then the school did not hold up to their end of the bargain. THEY OWE YOU. Right?

It’s the same if you paid $7k out of pocket for your CDL. And then before you can use their truck to get your CDL, they suddenly want you to sign this contract stating that you will pay them for the school if you don’t drive for a year. You ALREADY paid them $7k. Does the school cost $14000?

Look, I am not trying to argue with you or frustrate you any more than you already are. I am having difficulty understanding why you are walking away from what is rightfully yours.

The school and motel cost is $7k. They received no payment from US Gov. They WAIVED the fees anticipating I sign up for a year. So, they got no money and did not have to provide me the CDL as promised. Pretty simple.

You should sign up with Troops into Transportation if the VA is paying it. You get your CDL, then choose what company you want to work for. They reimburse fuel to get on site and all endorsements and hotel. I went to the one at Fort Hood in February.

Since the only loss you had then was time. Go to another school and make sure they do it right. Usually not a mega school, as those are geared to 1 year of indentured servitude. Go to a CDL mill type place. You'll get the same schooling (i.e. crap) but you will be free and clear and can get any job they will hire you.
