It is a camera that is attached to the windshield. It has a 2 lenses and a built in sound mic , one lens facing the road and one facing backwards in to the cab.It is recording all the time (Some do shut off after parking for a couple of hours). This is a recording loop with all that is recorded being erased (overwritten) automatically every 12 seconds. So what was recorded 12 or so seconds ago is erased and gone forever with out anyone ever viewing it.
Built in to the device is a 3 axis accelerometer that is preset with limits that are deemed normal.
If anything happens that exceeded these limits then the automatic erasing (overwriting) of the visual and audio 8 seconds prior to this incident and 4 seconds after the incident are not erased. This is then stored as a clip that is sent to be viewed and evaluated.
The quality and technology are poor on the Drivecam IMO.
The software is as bad if not worse.
Their advisory service or whatever they are called that score the drivers are incompetent.
That is basically what it is.
I find is used with the right intentions and using your brain it is very useful.
Youtube Drivcam to ge an idea of what types of clips are not erased.

I pray the drivers today that got blown over are OK!!!!......I am sure that the cameras will prove it was there fault, and preventables placed on there record...you can guarantee it drivers!
slim shady Thanks this. -
Unfortunately you're probably right. I've only been with Millis 6 months and it seems like they're running it into the ground. Morale is low, and lying constantly about what the cameras actually do are reprehensible. I'm jumping ship as soon as my schooling is payed off unless things get changed
Trucker Smith, Solo_Seat, devildawg69 and 2 others Thank this. -
Gonna be a lot march and april will be interesting to see all the trucks parked and cleaned out. This driver will be one.
slim shady Thanks this. -
They have been in business for almost eighty years. They DO NOT lie and are above average in every category. Anyone who puts this company down does not have much experience with other carriers in the industry. The camera will expose a poor driver and save a good driver.Be careful not to burn your bridges until you are absolutely sure you know what your talking about. Just trying to help.
The Challenger Thanks this. -
True with exposing bad drivers. But also gives them plausible denial ability in the event of an accident. Driver so and so was not following company policy. Now the driver is left holding the bag.

This is the one thing that concerns me about starting with Millis but I'm openminded about it. I have been under a microscope before and I'm willing to give it a try.

Drivers really ? LOL I assume some of you starting driving for the sole reason of being out on your own and being the captain of your ship with no bosses in your face all day - freedom. I see the total opposite, driver facing cameras, qualcoms, GPS tracking, Electronic logs, speed limiters, perimeter safety warnings (whatever they are called) and trucks that apply the brakes or cut the throttle when it senses or feels you dont know how to drive and that they can actually hear inside your truck LOL. I bet the folks that handle Nuclear grade plutonium aren't spied on as much.
I guess there are some merits to the outward facing cameras -50/50 chance of it protecting the CO. and driver.
Inward facing camera --not 1 chance of protecting either the driver or CO.
For the drivers that think you drive so safely and do nothing wrong LOL -what - you never drive with one hand or take a little longer look out the side window at some scenery -to which some lawyer would make out to be some unsafe driving practice after he subpenas the video.
There is nothing good that can come out of the inward facing camera and benefit the driver.
Oh yeh and someone had stated the safety facts and how much safer drivers are now since 1979 --you dont think it has something more to do with 60 mph trucks than with cameras.
When the clean safety record drivers with a couple of years under their belt quit these companies because they dont want to be spied on - how safe will their companies be when the seats are filled with newbies ? (no offense to the new drivers)PowderBlue, devildawg69, Night Prowler and 1 other person Thank this. -
Something that is puzzling me because I obviously don't share a lot of peoples opinion regarding these sort of devices.
Not specific to Mills but in general.
Do you guys apposing these cameras think they are primarily being used to place blame? -
devildawg69 Thanks this.
