It is so odd that so many companies turnover drivers at a rate of 100% each year, endlessly.
Any normal person, who had to replace every single person they know, would surely have a look in the mirror & maybe make some changes to how they behave.
But not in this business.

When I was temping with Pro Drivers I was in the Martin Brower office getting my load paperwork and one of their drivers was getting the strike one notice from his supervisor because he had been caught on camera with a blue tooth headset on. Didnt matter if he was talking on the phone or not, he was wearing it in the truck.

Crete has drivecam in 200 trucks now. 50 went into trucks of 'problem' drivers.
The other 150 went into new trucks handed out randomly.
They claim all crete trucks will have the drivecam, eventually.
No I have not been 'dismissed', but that could change.
You do not have to have a near accident to have the cam go off and have a phone session with some desk jockey in lincoln.
They are experimenting with the settings of the drivecam, and they can change them remotely, without the truck ever going into a shop.
They claim they can't view you at will, remotely, but I doubt it.
No, I am not so silly to think they are sitting there watching drivers all day, but it is possible to selectively watch and harass a driver.
I'd love to see them in all crete trucks NOW, instead of eventually.
If the trucks emptied out due to drivers not putting up with it, and drivers actually being caught doing unsafe things, the office monkeys in charge of this will be looking for jobs, too.
I am in favor of identifying and getting rid of bad drivers. I'm not a fan of harassment by the clueless.
Drivecam may not be so bad when it is monitored by a company with reasonable policies.
Oh, and don't forget, this is no dot mandated thing. The drivecam company leases these to the companies. They are selling them 'hard' and have a vested interest in making the service seem worthwhile.
If you say the insurance companies are behind this, you must not realize most big trucking companies are self insured? (If not most, many)
Good luck. Say 'cheese' when you see the little light flashing! -
I don't think they have a clue what it's costing them to replace people at that rate. :wtf:
My previous job at (b)Lowes, after store setup/grand opening, when I first started with them, the store manager went on vacation, and while he was gone, corporate sent an executioner in to get rid of about 25% of the workforce. The idiots didn't think about the fact another store was in setup phase and needed people (which our manager was already aware of and had made arrangements to send that 25% over in a mass transfer); they just decided to go behind his back and axe 25-30%, just because. Typical mindless corpthink. Well, the manager got wind of it, and went straight to upper management in NC, and got it overturned, but not before they had fired 20-something people. He got most of them back, the others were too pissed off to go back.
Point is, it never ceases to amaze me how the bean/body counters (or upper management, for that matter) can't see those costs, or can in any way justify them. -
Dangit! That's what got me in my previous job!

Hey, I'm with you on this one, the bus cams are to catch the kids acting up.

Just cut a fart, that'll do it...

.
Oxymoron, much?
Just like red-light cameras...
Even the self-insured have some insurance and government involvement, which sets how much money they have to set aside to cover any and all claims; the more "safe behavior" they can demonstrate (via, say, cameras or speed limiters), the less cash they have to tie up to cover their liability.
So smile when you pass that gas...Last edited by a moderator: Jun 4, 2014

That is why I will say the insurance company is behind this. The trucking company became their own insurance company. They are attempting to mitigate their risk by having these cams.
I was leased on to a carrier for about 4 years, and while they were not perfect, they respected drivers and if the situation wasn't black and white, the president more times than not sided with the driver. Once they became self insured the only side they now choose is the side of the almighty dollar, the people be ######! -
My problem is that your doing these companies a big favor by being Otr. That's why companies are having a hard time finding Otr drivers cause nobody wants to do it anymore especially the younger crowd. I'd leave this company cause their are plenty without cams and pay just as well. I'd say I'm leaving cause of the driver cam. Your selling yourself short by driving Otr with a cam, they're already not paying enough in my eyes for Otr drivers. Yes these cams capture voice loud and clear too. I've had my experience with drive cam personally.

I have a camera in my truck. Covered my butt in an accident. Lady claimed I cut her off which caused her to hit another truck which then sent her spinning into me. Once she was shown the video that I was maintaining my lane she was singing a different tune. We are allowed to cover the driver facing cam anytime the truck is not in motion. I forget it's even there now.
We're told that it records 15 seconds before and 15 seconds after an event but I know it can be viewed at anytime from the computer.Dinomite, bergy, Lux Prometheus and 1 other person Thank this.
