AS I can see you did not read all I wrote. If you did you would have read
that I have a clean record no fines nothing. lots of inspections. not even a headlight out. As far as speeding you have no a clue. as stated before
you just need to read it. its the facts. I do not care what the dash says.
it is always off just a little. most cops do not care and do not stop you.
but by law you are in the wrong. I have seen a driver get hit for a headlight and wanted to fix it right there with the extra he HAD.( note:) this
truck was like new nothing else wrong. guess what he got nailed anyway.
his logs done right. this driver was real nice. cop may of had a bad day.
who knows. YOU JUST GOT LUCKY, YOU COULD HAVE BEEN NAILED.
So say what you want you do all you can and it still can happen to you.
LIKE ME YOU HAVE BEEN VERY LUCKY. LETS HOPE IT STAYS THAT WAY.
If that happened to me I would be pissed. to get nailed for a light that was working on pre-trip and goes out while driving and cop a #####.

Hey Tazz, nothing against you. You probably have a clean rig and everything.

I come from a from a different school of thought, always assume the last driver to slip seat with you left a bag of coke in the fusebox, and a sixpack of beer in place of the #3 battery. Make sure the big obvious things are good to a casual glance because given enough time an determination the cops can ALWAYS find SOMETHING. The problem is no matter how much I whine to managment, the company is just not going to go to Great Dane and get me a set of brand spanking new trailers, it's just NOT going to happen. So I fix what I can, check everything multiple times, and fight my battles with the "shop lords" as best I can. Am I going to quit over a bad load tie down when I can just use the one next to it just as easilly? No. But COULD a cop write me up for defective equipment? Yeah, even if it's not being used.

Just keep cool, put on the "super trucker cloak of invisiblity" (tm) and boogie on down the road.

I was not going to say anything about this. but it has been bugging me.
Tazz, you said you got pulled over for a bad headlight and when all was said and done you got a pass on it.

Well If I go by your standards and man up for what I did wrong ( ie: driving an unsafe truck. headlight out ) then you should not have let the officer give you a pass.

Here is what you should have done. Say to the officer, Sir I always tell everyone to man up and pay for the things we do right or wrong. It is your duty to write this up and no disrespect but you are not doing your job if you do not. It would not be fare to you or me to just let me go. And I would never try to get a pass or pay some thing less then the wrong I did.

Now I hope you understand this as it is from what you said your standards and mind set are.

The officer did not do his job right. you should report him. Man up.

One other thing did your light work before you started out or did you not check out your truck. I hope you did your pre-trip that day. if not you broke the law. did you check your truck in route. If not again you broke the law. sorry.

I am not perfect. we all do wrong. All we can hope is that we do the best we can in all we do. And know in our hearts that is what we did. good luck to you in all you do. drive safe.:yes2557:

Yep had a light go out. Didn't whine to the officer, didn't request special dispensation for my actions. Just asked that now that I knew of the violation could I fix it on the side of the road instead of waiting until the next off ramp, scale, rest area......

My point was to disprove your notion it is about money. Lots of times the DOT will give the driver a pass if they have minor violations. Yours was not.
As for the officer doing his job he did. He stopped a vehicle he considered worthy of a look. At the end he was satisfied both the vehicle and the driver were squared away.

You chose to purposely violate a law for whatever your reason was. That fact is indisputable. You chose the action. Nothing broke, malfunctioned, was "off" you chose to let your vehicle roll down a hill knowing you were breaking a law.

    That is the difference.

Infosaur you would not believe the amount of tires and lights we have to have repaired with the expansion of our fleet. Jeez seems like some days guys drive with their eyes closed.

Thankfully our shop does not argue. If/ when I inform them something needs attention I get a shop to take it too, or if really bad or dangerous a repair service to call. We use PETE care or something that is very good at getting us either moving or towed rapidly, and as a bonus call the guys fixing it every so often ( about a half hour) for updates. When Paccar is paying the bill you seem to get service managers attention even on trailers.

You must be talking about the o/p not me AS I HAVE TOLD YOU MANY TIMES I HAVE NEVER BEEN FINED FOR ANYTHING. can you see that. if you have something wrong with your truck thats on you. I have never gotten pulled over. I fix issues before or during in route driving. It is a fact that alot of the stops are about money same as everything else in this world we live in. as for you please do not tell some one they are not a man if they try to get a pass or a do over as you call it. when you took one yourself. No matter how you got it IT was still a pass or do over.
    end of story.:biggrin_25510:
